[Denied]Allow the Notable Banned Users Thread to be posted

This thread (2019 Notable Banned Users Thread) and all it's predecessors has quite recently been unsticked, aswell as forbidden to be posted considering we "should not entertain scammers". While I agree to a certain extent, I do disagree forbidding the thread entirely is the way to go. For example, why would you forbid this thread, yet allow people to vote on "Best ban of the year" every year in the Sythe Awards? Why would you allow threads such as these (donorlounge) yet forbid the Notable Banned Users thread? And why on earth are those threads not allowed anymore, when they've been allowed for the majority of time Sythe.org has existed?

I get that having the thread stickied is wrong, I also get that listing it's ban reasons in amount of reports is wrong as it might entertain some non-existant competition between the scammers (and most likely they do seek recognition), but the thread does have some positive sides aswell; such as teaching all users that donor amount, postcount and sometimes even joindate have no relevance in whether an user should be trusted or not. Aside of that, this thread is a great way to figure out who you should vote for "Best ban of the year" in case you have forgtten, and for those users who often report ban evaders this thread also reminds them of several users, which makes it easier for them to tie user A with user B.

Right now, I am not allowed to post the thread anywhere (neither spam forum), which is basically my suggestion aswell, allow users to atleast post those threads in the Spam Forum - or hell, maybe just the Donor Lounge if you do not want it visible for the public eye. If it isn't clear yet we don't entertain scammers, then I do not know what else can be done.

 

I really like this suggestion because I side with your train of thought on how to educate the newcomers. This thread is actually a really great example, of how neither post count / donor status really don’t matter.
I would support this idea, if it can be re written as a guide that uses these people as examples. Would be also very useful in this “guide” to explain how to check for ban evaders that could link to these people, I think newcomers are quite curious & would actually find it fun? I know I would’ve when I started
Anyways all in all, I hope this passes it a better trophy than the ones we get for post count.

 

This has no relevance to the suggestion here plus if I will explain anyone how to catch ban evaders, I will immediately provide the ban evaders with ways to counterfight it. Not that it’s a trick to know or whatever, just basic knowledge of Sythe.

I support your suggestion. However, I’m adding on a suggestion of my own, which is to make it also a bit more informative to the community on how to actually be a safer trader & be able to do some type of investigation before doing trades.

 

Real life comparison: Famous serial killers like Ted Bundy have inspired some copycats, but that doesn't mean that Wikipedia should remove articles about serial killers, because knowing about the tactics serial killers use to trick their victims allows one to counter them. There are a lot more innocent people who would benefit from being able to recognize and defend against serial killer tactics than there are serial killers, just like how there are many more legit traders than scammers.

 

Well even more realistically speaking, there's two reason a banned person will pardon.

Either he didn't scam enough, and he will repay the small amount to scam more
or
He genuinely at that moment feels he needs to make things right, just like our dear @ABM

 

Just curious, what constitutes a "notable" banned member in comparison to some schmuck getting banned? Also why should these members ban reasons be posted and not the others?

 

This isn't supposed to be an official thread, so there are no actual guidelines as to whom and why someone should or should not be posted in it. Whoever is "notable" is up to the creator to determine, however my intention for future threads is not to list the reports.

 

Gotcha, was just curious. So who's notable is up to the discretion of the thread creator. What if for example the thread creators friend is banned and he doesn't want to hurt his friends reputation so his name isn't added to the list. Meanwhile someone who committed a lesser offense could still be listed.

The thread could be used as means of manipulating the market and only adding competition to the list even if it's for something not that major that will go away eventually.

 

Not if it were posted in the spam forum. The thread should be taken with a grain of salt and the only reason I want it to be allowed to be posted again is for my own recognition to remember who had some high profiles and were banned. Though, for now I'm not allowed to post it and I truly see no reason why it should be forbidden if we'd post it in Spam Forum (so it's taken as a grain of salt) or in Donor Lounge (so it's not visible for guests).
