[DENIED] Allow donating to the staff

Our volunteer mods are hard working people who devote 8 hours a day to maintain this forum. The donations can be done anonymously.

Adding a donate button on their user profile page



Pros:
- Slave work will be made into charitable work
- Increased motivation
- Faster response because of increased motivation
- Helps them with any irl problems (food, car wash, paying rent etc) not every mod is rich
Many more

 

Or just contact the staff you really like alot and tell em to pass you their btc addy to donate....? Seems like unnecessary added work to me.

If you were at the point where you would want to donate/support staff, you'd be relatively well-versed with this site and how its run. Personally contacting the staff wouldnt be a barrier to donations imo.

I'll have to admit that its a fresh suggestion I wouldnt have thought of myself nor the idea of donating to mods xD so kudos to you on that

 

I think it’s a worthy suggestion, but personally, I don’t support it. Sparta is right, if you feel the need to give them money for their hard work, nothing is stopping you.

I feel like staff members do their jobs as a way to give back to the community, gain a higher level of trust, hold power, etc. - all valid reasons. They are not forced to do what they do.

I feel like adding a donation option would incentivize certain forum users to work towards a staff position for the wrong reason.

 

Lets not forget about the mods who dont use sythe for any other means than to moderate. If sythe didn't have a donate feature would you still donate or wouldn't care?

 

This is a noble suggestion, however unless the funds are coming from Sythe himself this may create a conflict of interest or at the very least favoritism towards specific members of the community.... no support of this specific suggestion but staff should get some pay, it’d be nice.... but I don’t think any other forums pay their mods so it’d be hard to approve.

 

I agree with Jsand, noble sugestion.
But I think staff became staff because they care about the community and really want to help out.
By having a donate option I think it loses its original value.

 

Again, I believe it reverts back to the notion of choice. Mods who don’t use sythe for any reason other than to moderate do so under their own free will. I think it’s great they do that, but that is their decision. If they are suffering financially, they can choose how they utilize any free time to solve their issues.

I’m not against supporting payment and/or donations to staff members. I’m just against doing it this way as I feel it can quickly create a situation where people are in it for the wrong reasons.


As for the Sythe donations - that’s a completely separate topic, in and of itself. I feel like the answer to that question isn’t reflective of this suggestion.

Encouraging staff is a priority, and also a personal preference of mine to be able to donate (privately) to staff members who are encouraging and helpful.

For each no support i'll give a reason to yes support

- Asking for donation even though for a volunteer work, on a mod would look indecent. The anonymous donation will be enough to kill the awkwardness

One thing that hasn't been mentioned in the original post that I think you should include in your thread would be what would you even be donating in the first place? Would it be Sythe Gold or would it be IRL money, and if you are donating IRL money, how do you plan for them to integrate it? PayPal, Skrill, Bitcoin etc...?

 

While its a nice gesture, this would be akin to bribery. Staff members are not forced to volunteer, if they are losing motivation they are able to step down. Everyone has their limit and some staff members can get overwhelming amounts of messages and requests, so much that they just need a break or two every now and then.

If a staff member is struggling irl, it should go without saying that they need to prioritize their real life situation before they can donate their extra free time.

 

No support. If mods want to make money they can participate in the market and actually learn how trading on sythe works.

 

Sounds like a recipe for disaster imo.

 

I feel this is quite a thoughtful suggestion quite honestly and I'd be lying if I said I never thought about donating some cash to a mod for their help/quick responses.
I have to go with a no support though because it could lead to some issues or even open the door to maliciousness that I wouldn't want to see opened.

If you appreciate a mod for their hard work you can donate on your own tbh, no issues there

 

Going to the car wash is up there in priorities, just like paying rent or buying groceries.


I wouldn't mind adding anonymous donations to avoid bribery/conflict of interest. But overall I don't think it would be utilized at all

 

You know getting that Porsche GT3 RS hand washed and clay barred is up there on the priority list for @Sythe

At the end of the day, a staff member must be a responsible person. A large part of being responsible is managing your IRL commitments.

 

Zero support. Building on my original response of it being a waste of time to implement, as others here have wisely mentioned already, its a very slippery slope. No to giving people the opportunity to bribe mods or create a toxic culture promoting bribery

 

No support, can cause many issues with legitimacy of outcome in reports
