Probably because he is trying to make it look like it doesn't bother him. Anxiety is probably still affecting him.

If he wanted to be hated, the obvious would to use reverse psychology, where for instance someone has a mustache, and they have it because it annoys everyone, but everyone saying they like it makes him not want it anymore, so he removes it. Really, they hated it, and they used that to get him to remove it. So he is making it look like he likes being hated, in hope that you will stop. That's what I've concluded anyways.
