    Current cost/methods of training herblore?

For all you herb-heads here (and I dont mean pot:cool:), I am curious to know some of the best Herblore training methods , in terms of speed and overall cost? I just put alot of money into Turm and that journey is finally almost over.. but I still have about 100M cash leftover to play with after getting 95 prayer. I probably don't have nearly enough to level my herb all the way, but I want some info from all you guys who have got your extremes/overloads already. It would be nice to finish my barrows pure off in the near future with a high herblore level, to make bossing and combat activities alot more fun/easy. Plus 90+ herb always looks great :)

The info and opinions I am searching for:

    - How much did it cost you?

    - What method did you use to train, what pots did you make etc. ?

    - Is now a better time than ever to raise this expensive skill?

    - Is having extremes and overloads WORTH the cost/effort of training in your opinion?

    - Are there any SLOWER but significantly LESS expensive methods that you know of?

    - Any other useful information you could offer, or links to well detailed guides that I could check out?

I am going to do a bit of research myself, and do some looking/asking around. But I know there are a couple elite players on this forum who are probably very experienced in Herblore, and so I thought I would ask for some advice. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! :)

this is a good calculator for herb: http://www.tip.it/runescape/?herb updates daily with ge I believe and helps you figure out how many pots you need for your desired level. I did combat pots on my main back when it cost a shit load but once bots are back up the price of herbs will probably crash again.

    What level are you currently?

I would make Super Attacks (not too costly, and not too shit of XP) until about 93 Herb, then make Extreme Att/Str/Def/Magic/Range until 96 Herb.

The purpose of making Extremes is, although it is a 100% money loss since you can't sell them, you will most likely make them anyways in the future. So, you are basically actually having LESS of an expense because you are just training Herb with something you would have made later anyway.

During Bonus XP weekend, I got 96 Herb off Extremes. I made about 1k Extreme sets, and turned 200 of those into Overloads.

    EDIT:

To address some of your questions, yes I believe Overloads and Extremes are worth having. I use Extremes on a day to day basis on both of my 138's, and use Overloads for any 'serious' bossing activities I do.

I can't put an exact cost on my Herb training, since I did it during Bonus XP the last time I did it, and the first time I did it on my other 138 Herb was much more expensive than it is now.

I wouldn't say there is any 'better time' to do it, since in my opinion Herb is insanely cheap compared to what it used to be. The benefit of the pots you unlock with higher herb far outweighs the cost of the skill ;)

Thankyou Silly, this is a fantastic and informative response and exactly the kind of information that I was looking for! I forgot to add the the character I want to level my herb on (my barrows pure), is only level 49 herblore right now. Most of his non-combat skills are basically at the bare minimum for whatever I needed to get for quest requirements.

I also like the advice you gave about making extremes until 96, even though you cannot sell them. I think that this will likely be what I will end up doing as I know that I WILL end up making them down the road for Overloads anyways. It would be nice to already have some in the bank to avoid further expenses down the road when I am unprepared.

Punjabi3 - Thankyou very much for the link to that calculator. I will be checking that out in a few minutes and will calculate the price of making certain potions, particularly super attack potions like Sillymonkey suggested.

I don't mind taking awhile longer to actually get 96 herblore because I trained a make a potion that is slower, yet significantly cheaper to train with. Obviously I would prefer to get it done as fast as possible, but unfortunately I am also within a budget and so the cost of training my herblore is a major factor that I must consider before I make any choices. Thanks for the info so far boys! You have both been very helpful. If anybody else would like to add more, please feel free to :)

Just checked out that calculator and if I made Super Attack potions all the way to 93 OR 96, it definitely cost me less than 100M. Not to mention that I would make a good portion of that money back reselling the Super Attack or Super Strength potions I made (as it looks like I will be making like 60-70k of them ). This is fantastic! I could sink that money back into extreme potions and then use those pots to get to 96 and sink into overloads.

I think I may actually go for it :) My Barrows Pure is nearly finished and ready to just PK 24/7. It would be nice to have a little skilling project on the side though for when I need a break, and I'm sure it would make bossing alot more fun down the road.

Serum 207, it's cheap fast and cheap :)
I suggest making extremes from 89+ so you can turn them into overloads

You are obviously so busy replying to every single thread in this section that you didn't actually read my post ;) I said that I just put alot of money into getting Turmoil, and 100M cash is the extra money that I have leftover. I've already got 95 prayer and just have to get some hunter levels and then do a few quests before I can do Temple at Sennisten.

Please read next time, as your post wasn't really very helpful or thoughful.

I'd do super restores, pretty sure it's under 100M to 99 if you sell the potions.

    - How much did it cost you?
currently have 93 herb banked and its costed me around 50m

    - What method did you use to train, what pots did you make etc. ?
    52-84 = super energies
    84-95 = recover specials

    - Is now a better time than ever to raise this expensive skill?

wait until bots come back for all prices to drop

    - Is having extremes and overloads WORTH the cost/effort of training in your opinion?

    yes. they are amazing lol

    - Are there any SLOWER but significantly LESS expensive methods that you know of?

    - Any other useful information you could offer, or links to well detailed guides that I could check out?

Wow, that is great news man! I was really only reaching for Extremes/Overloads, but if I could get it all the way to 99 with 100M then that would be fantastic. I will look into making Super Restores and compare the prices/speed. Thanks for the advice :)

Great response man, 50M is more than within my price range and I will check out the specific pots you mentioned and compare it with some of the other suggestions I have recieved.

So far, I'm quite glad I posted this thread. Its really boosting my confidence in making this decision and I think I am going to end up going for it after my char is finished. If the market prices stay low, I will most likely start stocking up right now :D Thanks to everyone for the responses so far. If anybody else has anything to add feel free to contribute.

Ps - I've heard some people clean herbs to their desired herblore level and either lose very little money, OR make a small profit. The downside is that I can't imagine cleaning herbs giving very much exp (even the higher levelled ones that I am not able to clean yet) so I would bet that this would take awhile and would be something better suited for a bot than a human. Anybody have experience cleaning herbs until 90+?
