I'm not trying to talk shit on anyone, but I'm legitimately curious and have little knowledge on this kind of stuff. After sifting through the market section I noticed some threads advertising livechat jobs.

Say GoldGoldington's Gold shop is situated in Ontario, Canada. They are registered as a tax paying business. Minimum wage in this province is $11.25 but GoldGoldington offers his livechat workers, a lot of which live in Canada and the U.S., $4-8/hr depending on experience.

Goldgoldington does not collect identification, right to work, official employee forms; and all payments are sent out untaxed.

I'm sure there's some sort of loophole that has to do with online contracting or whatever, but my guess is if Amazon or something were to start paying random American's $5/hr under the table to run their livechat shit would go down.

Anyone have some insight on this?

Yeah. Government makes it illegal for people who want to work to get jobs, and illegal for people who want to hire to hire. Fortunately, Sythe is a free market, and gives the finger to governments.

If you contract with someone internationally without bringing them into your jurisdiction then neither jurisdiction can bind the counter party. (Your local court wouldn't have jurisdiction over your employer, and their local court wouldn't have jurisdiction over you.)

If the employer and the employee are in the same country this is different and could be a problem. You can get around it easily by having the "employee" be their own business entity (sole trader) and forming a business contract with them.

Because no records are kept either, you could probably frame it as volunteer work with rewards depending on work input. That's why some livechats are purely commission based; that isn't actually illegal in any developed country, let alone any developing country afaik.

It's pretty fucking easy to get a job at a grocery store or a fast food restaurant that pays more than livechat jobs. No idea why anyone would do it other than laziness, which I hear is actually a real reason why people choose livechat jobs over something real and tangible.

Possibly some people run live chat from existing jobs for a bit of extra money

You'd have to have a hell of a lot of consistent/reliable downtime in a place where your internet usage is unrestricted and unmonitored

Just curious if you read the whole thread. Which if you did completely removes you're argument or question. "State's he's looking for people outside of the U.S. and Canada".

I make just under state requirement. However If you do the math It's more profitable for me. How is that possible you say? Well for starters you work from home. Which means I dont spend money every day getting back and forth from work. I also find that i eat out way more for lunch when I drive to work. I smoke way less working from home as well. I also avoid wear and tear on my vehicle. Now given my current wage and Lack of expense's I actually make more then state minimum wage. I have the ability to be paid in several different forms. I also keep the government out of my life and finance's. Most importantly I get to work from home in my boxers. Cant put a price on that homie.

Yea but, work from home in your boxers for a couple of years and have fun, or work in a real industry and make bank, and then sit in your boxers for the rest of your life.

Yah I agree with Sellerman there.

I used to do livechat back before I got my first job and I really don't have concerns with the business as long as the employer is honest with the pay. I don't think it's terribly difficult (can be taught to literally anybody) and has the appeal of being able to chill out at home and not have responsibility. It's not really worth $10 an hour or whatever. Great for kids but I hate the idea of being stuck to a computer. How will you ever even meet people.

I'm doing a low stress customer service now for ~$20-25/hr while I wait to get back into school and the benefits of constantly being around people and making a bit more money faaaar outweigh the benifits of being able to being able to spend another 6 hours a day at home. Even if they both paid the same I'd take the real job.

Just hope you don't get audited or something =|

Err.. you're from Florida aren't you? Goldgoldington has historically hired a lot of employees from U.S., Canada, and other first worlds. Don't think it dismantles the question.

I dont get paid in a currency they recognize. If you landed a sweet gig for 20-25/hr that's kick ass man. I unfortunately made some terrible mistakes in my past. Im paying the price now. Im just grateful to be employed

Yes I live in Florida, but applied to a different application. As for my wages I keep private. I can assure you though I dont work for $5/hr. My state wages were discussed and we came to a agreement. I was perfectly fine with the process and pleasantly surprised. Currently the application is looking for potential agents outside of the U.S./Canada. Keep in mind no one is forcing you to apply. He is leaving it open for all parties who might be interested. Have a issue or dont like the terms then dont apply and move on.

I feel you man. Keep working for something better.

I'm just saying be careful, I don't know anything about law so I have no ground to stand on but the IRS doesn't care what currency you get paid in if they think you owe them money. Wouldn't look good on a criminal record.
