My first guide was abit outdated so I've updated it and added some extra ways to reduce your lag enjoy!

This guide will show you how to reduce your latency (MS/lag), significantly. this will usualy lower your ms from 200 to less than 50.

You will need to download a few files for this all are contained in a .rar files at the bottem.

WLAN Optimizer:

WLAN Optimizer is a small application for WIFI users that disables Vista/Win7 background scans with WiFiHelper. It improves latency time of wireless connections. Hence it is useful for people with wireless connections getting lag spikes (especially during online gaming, audio and video streaming). The application automatically tries to optimize your wireless.

Step 1: Check your MS on: http://www.pingtest.net/

Step 2: Download the MS Reduction Tools pack from a url at the bottem of this post

Step 3: Extract the .ZIP file with winrar http://www.rarlab.com/ to my documents, keep them incase you need them later on.

step 4: Double click WLAN Optimizer in MS Reduction Tools folder (no setup required) then double click WiFiHelper (no set up required) then double click Install (restart required).

Step 5: Click "Checker" in MS Reduction Tools to make sure everything installed.

Step 6: Check your MS again on: http://www.pingtest.net/ to see results!

MS Reduction tools download link:
Note: AVG does not seem to like WiFiHelper if resident shield is turned on it will prompt you when it trys add it self to start up.

If you still disconnect/lag then try rebooting your router if that doesn't work...

If you type ipconfig in cmd you will see something called "default gateway" an IP will show something like this; 192.168.0.1

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/4156/defaultgateway.jpg

If you type it into the url of your browser and login your router with your username and password (If you don't know your routers default password check here http://www.phenoelit-us.org/dpl/dpl.html) and if you don't know your routers model check on the bottem of your router. look for the option to change your wireless channel (often "wireless options"), usualy it will be from 1 to 13. Once you've found this option change your wireless channel to a channel with less wifi interference then save. You can download inSSIDer to find your exact interference on X wireless channel and to find the best possible wireless channel. Example if your RSSI shows up in in red then you're getting alot of interference; you should aim for 40 RSSI. http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/4061/inssider.jpg

If anyone still continues to not see improved latency/less disconnects then pm me or post here and I'll try help as best as I can.

I don't have any ping issues and its largely based on the servers jagex uses. not risking the download.

Maybe you should stop spamming this all over the forums. I'd suggest no one download the link. Reported, and hopefully you'll be banned.

i get he could be banned for spamming but not for trying to help?

nice guide btw, this would help people with old basic shit pc's but most of the new ones update this there selves ithink?

It's no problem. Usually people with wireless tend to lag more.

This is utter crap, and I'm inclined to believe the entire post of yours is also utterly crap. The transfer rate between your PC and your wireless router is many, many times faster than your rate of Internet transferring, even if there are copper wires in between the latter signal. My wireless router gets 300 MB/sec total transfer rate, whereas my Internet router gets only 12 MB/sec downloading and 1 MB/sec uploading. Even people with shitty hardware get 40 MB/sec as a minimum on most wireless G routers, whereas a common slow Internet speed of today is about 512 kb/second (.5 MB/sec). The slow Internet speed is what causes lag, not the fact that it is hard wired or wireless.

That is very true, however he is talking about ping not bandwidth. I'm not entirely sure if ping can be decreased by what he says though.

God damn people hes just trying to give some suggestions.. Best way I'd do it though is to find a world on RS that's closest to your location.. therefore you get the best MS to/from the server

RS barely takes any bandwidth to play, you could have 512kb/s internet speed with a really low ping and lag less than somebody with say a 2MB/s but with a really high ping. But I see what your getting at with the wired/wireless deal
