I'm on probation.

I am constantly researching things like ETG testing, drug testing, probation officer privileges, restrictions, etc.

Often I find myself pouring through Q&A sites where someone with poor English skills asks a question about probation and similar people respond to them with inaccurate information.

I'm thinking of creating a general website for information on general subjects concerning probation and parolees.

There would be an informative section, and a forum for people to post their experiences in different states/counties with different conditions and forms of probation.

Along with constructive criticism, I'm looking for ideas on how to profit from such an endeavor, aside from advertising for internet law firms, fake urine, etc.

Also if anyone likes the idea and wants to help with website design/forum maintenance, contact me!

Please don't spam me, this is a serious idea and I just wouldn't know where else to post it on this site.

Easy, just build a WP site in one day. Work on some SEO and serve google ads.

Not sure if a forum structure would be best for this kind of thing, perhaps just pages/content/articles whatever you want to call it which can be grouped/sectioned/tagged and commented on.. rather than a forum board.

The sites still in construction stage but the way I set it up is that the main site will be as you said.

Then there is a link to a forum section which would be used for people asking case specific questions or questions not answered on the main site. Conditions vary case by case and by area so I want a common place for these questions to be covered and remain viewable to the public.

Ehhhhhhhh as constructive criticism for the entire idea, your niche is not very large. However, any site can be successful with the right kind of management. I ran a highly successful site a while back (which died on my watch, but only because my security manager had his own account hacked, and our domain account password stolen from his fking PM box ----_-), so if you do have any specific questions, you can PM me. You could certainly PM administration here, but they're probably too busy or cbf to reply.

At the end of 2013 almost 7 million people were on probation or parole, excluding juveniles and those on conditional release.

Thank you for the offer, I most definitely will run into problems and I'll remember that.

Do you have statistics on how many are interested in an internet forum? Or even how many are financially stable enough to afford computer and internet, or to dedicate time to using either for the purpose of participating in a community with such a specific focus?

The amount of people affected by your focus is large to be sure, but the niche relies not on the amount there are, but the amount that are willing to put their time into such a thing.

I'm legitimately asking, not dissing the idea, because I've never been there, so I have no idea what the general interest would be in a group of individuals such as that. If you have reason to believe a significant portion are in need of a forum to participate in, then more power to you! I do hope it works

Ok, I imagine most of the activity will come from googling, how to pass a drug test.

Then things like, how long does this drug stay in my system, what OTC medication can I use, etc.

I do not want the site to focus around these drug test issues but it will be the most on reason for a visit. There are many, many other topics that I wish to make a point of.

People using probation keywords would direct them to the site dedicated to these topics.

As of now there are no informative, or dedicated sites to such a topic. There is frequent activity however on sites like ask or doctor sites where a user can post their question and someone gives them a usually unsupported or inaccurate answer. Subsequently we have 20+ users digging the thread with their own stories and questions. I see it all over the web.

I'm not only looking for profit though, I'm trying to eliminate all of this bullshit and help people find te answers they need.

I'm also not recommending to visitors that they attempt to cheat drug tests or risk things or go out of town, rather HIGHLY suggesting that they don't. But there is information people are ignorant to on a wide array of subjects concerning probation and parole.

To be honest man I don't want anyone risking their lives based on pure ignorance because the officers are basically like god to you during your period of supervision. They can lock you up with a snap of their fingers.

With that being said I'm just out to make a difference.

Also, the forum side will only be for q&a, and the main site would be informative.

Well at the very least, it sounds like you have a plan of where you'll dig for your activity. Having a plan is always better than blindly hoping a niche is big enough to get the traffic your need. Good luck and definitely let me know if you have questions. I don't presume to know more about site management, but you never know if someone has a solution to something you can't quite solve yourself
