Concerning the do not suggest list.

While most of the things on the DO NOT SUGGEST LIST: http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=183249 are fairly self explanatory i think there should be clarifying points as to why you should not suggest them or why they were turned down in the past. I was scrolling through trying to find out about why luring was allowed looking through suggestions to look for a thread on it.. and now its on the dreaded "do not suggest" list... considering i feel very strongly against allowing/supporting luring on a site where im expected to TRADE! luring is gaining RSGP or items through deceit.. albeit it slightly cunning in some cases it is still just scamming someone. Lots of scams are genius.. does that mean we should allow them as well....? Luring isnt conducive to a good trading enviroment at all, if someone is going to lie and deceive people for monetary gain in game whats to stop them from doing it on forums?

Either way, if it was elaborated on some of the things that are on the do no suggest list i wholeheartedly believe a lot fewer threads would be made concerning the things on the DOS list and more serious, productive threads containing new issues would be made.
PS: some more elaborate reasoning on the luring issue would be greatly appreciated

 

I think it is a good idea, but IMO a big problem is that hardly anybody even bothers to look at the DNS list before making a suggestion in the first place. All the time & effort that summarizing the history of each previously denied suggestion would take would probably not be worth it.

If somebody were willing to put in the effort and update the list with a summary of each DNS and why it has been denied in the past, then of course I think that would be a good idea. It is nice to have access to that kind of information and it provide clarification for a lot of people. But with that said, it is quite unlikely.

 

I support, it's reasonable to ask for explanations to why they're on the list.

Unnecessary, extra work. We have PM

- A better server or host
Users would always prefer better. Sythe does his best to budget for the best of the site.

- Application for staff forum
You apply through your actions on the site.

- Arcade
There are already tons of sites with tons of games.

- Bump button
No reason when people can just post. Also, posting makes keeping track of the time since last bump much easier, allowing for easier enforcement of fair bumping rules.

- Changes to the signature size rules
Ideal signature size has been determined so that they aren't too large or too small on the screen. Arguments could always be for slightly larger or smaller sigs, but the changes are insignificant and the size rules are clearly within a reasonable range.

- Charity section
No point, attracts beggars.

- Colored names for non-staff.
Colored names help people easily identify staff.

- Giveaway section
See charity section. People can do giveaways in community general or promotions on their sales threads.

- Invite only forum
Would cause a lot of stupid drama.

- Larger Avatar Size
Larger size is already a donor perk.

- Larger Avatar Upload sizes
The size limit prevents excessive server load.

- List of paypal accounts that charge back*
These paypal accounts are mostly stolen so it would be unfair to people who are innocent bystanders of hacking to have their paypal posted on such a list. Additionally, there are so many paypal accounts out there and it's easy enough to shoot money
from a blacklisted one to another before paying that such a list would be pointless.

- More Moderators
More are added when there's too much work for the staff to handle.

- More inbox space
It's a donor perk.

- Name changes to be allowed
Causes confusion

- Name forum
There's already a name sales forum. I'm not sure what the DNS list means by "Name forum"

- No middlemen application forum
OMM are a good way for new members to get introduced to trading. They provide a valuable service to the site and the role of OMM is one for which an application is ideal.

- Not allowing Luring on Sythe
Been discussed many times and unless Sythe changes his mind it will stay allowed. Generally arguments in favor go along the lines of:
1. Jagex allows it.
2. Gets more traffic for the site.
3. Functionally similar to botting, but instead of devaluing the currency of players by a little, one is wiping out an entire individual.

- Official trainers
People can determine who they want to trust or not.

- Only registered users can see the forum
Letting unregistered individuals see draw more people into the site.

- Porn section
Legal liability issues and much of the audience is under 18.

- Post count limits/requirements
Spam forum has a requirement, there's no real reason to have it for other places. Again, people need to use their judgement for who they trust.

- Rep/Thanks system
We have the vouch system and it works well.

- Requesting ranks for yourself or for others
The suggestion forum would be spammed with requests for ranks. Ranks are given out on rare occasions as the admins see fit.

- Shoutbox
There would be lots of spam/other attacks.

- Showing ban reason for banned members*
Extra work to display and sometimes the information is best kept private. If you really want to know one, you can always try to find a scam report on the individual or ask around.

- Staff powers for non-staff members
Staff have earned the trust not to abuse them and hold the responsibility to maintain the site.

- Sythe Currency
No reason for the site to do this. Lots of cost of time with little or no gains.

- Sythe iPod app
You can access Sythe with your browser.

- Troll section
Trolling isn't welcome on Sythe outside the spam forum. A troll section doesn't make sense anyway because you wouldn't be able to troll anyone because anyone posting there would be looking to troll.

- VIP forums.
We have the donor section. A selected VIP forum would cause a lot of stupid drama.

- Vouches for GFX*
Been discussed many times as well and will not change unless the admins change their mind.

- Warez Section
Legal issues.

- Vouch/post requirements to certain sections*
People can decide who they want to trust on their own.

 

I think that those, for the most part sum it up.
