Concerning mage boxing

Here are my questions about mage boxing that may change the direction of my staker.

• Are* there a lot of people who mage box? (I'll be 97 Combat)
• Does defence really matter?
• What spells do I use?

Added question: Maxed boxing or Maxed mage boxing? Why?

tons of people mb, defence does matter, people usually start off with smoke barrage to poison, then blood barrage for the rest of the duel

Many people are Maxe Boxing, and i think Cb 97 wouldn't be a problem to find someone to stake against.
Defence does matter, but much less then when boxing, whip staking/ddsing, etc.
And you start off with smoke barrage to poison the other, once you got hitted, you immediately start blood barraging to heal back, and if you do not get hitted, keep smoke barraging to have more chance of poisoning him.
If you mb with obstacles, which some do, use ice barrage to keep away from them.
That's how it goes i think.

[Are] there a lot of people who mage box? (I'll be 97 Combat) as long as you have 99 Mage/Hp/Def then you'll be able to find people.

Does defence really matter? Just get it to be safe encase someone scams and turns off Magic and on melee.

What spells do I use? Smoke at the beginning and Shadow to heal. Then smoke again.
