    Computer wont turn on

Hey guys, I have a problem with my sony vaio vpceh14fm laptop
    so heres how it goes

Ok, so one day, I was on my laptop and I forgot my charger. I used it till it was dead (couldn't turn it back on) and 3 days later, I got my charger and plugged it in. There was no "charging light" on the computer and I couldn't turn it. I tried to power reset or whatever it's called (hold button for 30 seconds) but it didn't work. HOWEVER, one time I took out the cd-rom and power reset it and plugged it back in without the battery and it started to boot for like 2 seconds then shut down. It won't work anymore. Any suggestions? I took it to my local computer repair and they said it was the motherboard or some shit and I asked how much. They said 300$. Like wow. I've had my laptop for 4 years and 300$ to repair an old laptop?

I checked the voltage for the charger and it showed that it was 19.5v which is exactly what the label on the charger said

    Could you guys help me?

    Thanks so much

You can always take it to another shop for a second opinion, but if they said there was an issue with the motherboard they're probably right. There isn't much we can recommend besides having it replaced or getting a new laptop.

Hmm, could you give me some specifics regarding what exactly happens when you try to turn it on? I might be able to give you a second opinion as I've worked around quite a bit with Sony Laptops/hardware.

For instance, does your fan go on when you turn it on? Does the power light boot up, but no screen image? Are there any noises when you turn it on or when it shuts down?

From what you've explained so far, I'm not quite sure if it's the motherboard yet. So let me know. Also, have you checked to make sure nothings wrong with your RAM?

I'd get a second opinion before throwing it out. depending on how much you have invested into it you might be better off buying a whole new laptop. its not like a pc in the fact that its easy to replace parts.

what happens EXACTLY if you plug it in w/o the battery? Do you hear any beeps any fans spin? Any lights turn on? Anything?!

Did you by any chance drop your laptop recently?

Theres so many things it could be... It could be as simple as unseated hardware or it could be something overheated, do you smell anything burnt near the fan ports?

    Nope, no sound, nothing.

When I turn it on without the battery and plugged in, it won't even start
Nothing happens, it's like that it died.

Looks like there's no battery even powering it, but I checked my voltage and it was the same

Hmm well the fact that it won't even turn on and even though there's indication that power seems to being going to your Laptop--probably means that the motherboard is dead. Checking your RAM at this point probably won't help much but you could try. Under your laptop there should be a plate with a screw attached to it. If it's not there you'll have to find some instruction online in regards to your RAM location. In any case, take out the RAM and try powering it. Also try removing the RAM chips and then putting them back in the RAM holders.

All I can say at this point is that, most likely your motherboard is severely damaged. :/ If the PC repair shop you took it to said they want $300 for a replacement it's actually pretty reasonable if it's including labor + price of motherboard. Generally repairs cost 400+ However, generally it's best to just buy a new Laptop/PC instead of replace motherboards as you could get a brand new one for a decent price. It's up to you but generally most people do just buy new laptops if motherboards die because it's not really worth repairing--unless you have a very high-end PC/Laptop.

    Well good luck man.

Are you sure everythings the same on the new charger? amps, voltages etc?

If it's not there is a chance that the charger isn't outputting enough power to charge your laptop.
Another case could be that you bought a charger that output too much and it blew the shit out of your laptops mobo.
