Because its easier to prevent a catastrophe then dieing with a bullet in you. Most people prefer to live a good long life instead of dieing in their teen years.

Dreading on it and remembering it are two totally different things.

Dreading gets you no where but fear.
Remember means you can learn from it.

If you ask me its very sad. It was the worst school shooting and really the one that most people remember. Before this people thought schools were safe. People were killed that should not have thats why its sad. Should it be the top news story? No.

To SuF: Gratz on missing a period :p I bet those kids are going to have fun getting in deep shit with the police.

I think that we can learn from the mistakes in the past but as time wears on it should be remembered but not "celebrated" like it is today. Every time an innocent person is killed it sucks but you dont see the news going back to a bunch of civilians in Iraq or Vietnam who were killed. People just react like this because it was American kids who killed them and American kids who were killed

Dreading it can also mean fixing it. Even though the problem is semi-solved, people dread the day when another shooting happens.

Why is it remembered? To pay respect? I'm fairly sure that's why.

Columbine is over-rated. There have been much worse tragedies that have been forgotten. Stop dwelling on the past.

Yeah, I agree. I can understand if you're part of the families of the victims. but to the rest of the people, why does it matter much? That doesn't mean we don't feel bad. It's just that we don't dread on it.

A friend and I just got done doing a huge research project on Columbine.
A common misconception about Columbine is that Dylan Kebold and Eric Harris (the two killers) brought guns to their school and shot students and teachers because they were being bullied etc at school. That's not true. They did it because they waned to make history. They wanted to make it the biggest massacre in America's history.
They planted multiple propane bombs through out the school, mainly in the cafeteria. Their initial plan was to wait for these bombs to go off, causing the library from above to collapse onto the cafeteria. In this commotion they knew people would start running out the front doors, so they had planned to be standing there with their guns ready to shoot at the students running out of the school.
After the propane bombs they planted in the school failed to explode because they were badly built, they decided to just run int he school and shoot people mostly at random. They killed about two or three students outside of the school and then went inside and opened fire. Int he library they killed the most students, including themselves.

The reason this is still remembered today so very much is because it had a huge impact on society. Firstly, it had a very large impact on school security. Right after Columbine schools started implementing higher security, such as metal detectors, school IDs, video cameras, "no book bag rules", and even on campus police officers. Also, there were songs, books, movies, and other media based works created after Columbine. Columbine had a much larger effect on society than most people think it did. It was really the school massacre to change society, and that's why it's so remembered today.

Past is past, and in this case it is just plain annoying to have it bombarded at you 24/7 around the time that it occurred 10 years ago. I believe it should be forgotten, but what can I say? People enjoy reveling in the past for some unknown reason.

My favorite is when he asked a girl if she believed in god, she replied yes. Then he went on to shoot her in the head.

You forgot to put that Eric was getting treated for depression at the time and he was found with his meds in his body at the time. Dylan on the other hand was not. Dylan did have friends people still don't know why he went on this killing spree.

I do spend quite some time outside. Only in the summer really though, as i love gardening. I think its funny that he killed her for believing in god. Guess all that believing didn't pay off, did it?

Not saying forget, but should it still be something that they "celebrate"/mourne every year?

Your right, forgetting will only make it worse. And you cant forget it.
