Collation of Mini-Rank Suggestions

I've suggested this at length, spoke with Rich and Matthew about it personally. In short, an official verification minirank won't be produced/allowed. An unofficial one sure, however that doesn't serve any purpose, as we're the official verification team.

From every post I read through in that thread (which is all of them), it seems that literally everyone supported the idea but Matthew, and his reasoning was that verification is an unofficial process. He was against special treatment of user-to-user setups because miniranks and ranks signify that something is officially Sythe-backed.

I'd be happy to lead another discussion on this if the board's open for it.

League of Legends does not deserve special treatment in the way that it should take precedence over other games or other games' rules systems, but it does deserve different treatment because it has a completely different format. Literally no other market requires skill in the way that League of Legends boosting does. What does a RuneScape gold seller have to do to market his 20B RuneScape coins worth $5,000? Simply have the coins - and he doesn't even need to prove that he has them until he trades them away.

In the official, stickied rules for the LoL market forum, there is a clear statement that boosters offering Platinum I+ boosting must be verified to even run their service. It's pretty clear that our "user-to-user" verification process is as Sythe-official as it is accepted forum-wide as a measure of skill.

And as far as scam victims of a boost-verified user whining to Sythe, it's unreasonable to use that as an argument against these miniranks. The Sythe Verified User system is official and site-sponsored, and plenty of SVU members have scammed in the past all the same. But the system remains intact because it's a quality idea.

Verified boosters have proven themselves to be of ample skill to outplay a huge percentage of League players across the world. Toss those tried and true folks a minirank of their tier to instantly prove to newfags that they can boost what they advertise. Help streamline the LoL boosting forum, and allow it the respect it deserves as (easily) one of the biggest markets on Sythe.

 

I haven't read that thread but apparently there are steam verifier mini-ranks (According to Dave). Surely that follows on a similar precedent: wouldn't they be unofficial ones also? Why do they get special treatment over LoL?

 

Exactly. Also, there's an overwhelming vote (sponsored by Roary) to get a rank for the CDT. They're acknowledged by Sythe, just like LoL verifiers, but they're not so official, either.

 

i dont really think an extra icon is needed, but cant see the harm of it.

 

Going to PM Matthew now about the addition of the RS/Off-Topic/Event Participant mini ranks. The verification/verifier mini-ranks won't happen. Sythe was highly against it and I tried my best to push those one's through.

It correlates with what matthew said: "I WROTE the MiniRank system. I DESIGNED them to be FUN and POINTLESS. They are strictly to make Sythe.org more unique and to give users an EASIER type of rank to obtain and collect."

They should be easier to obtain if they are for a section that receives less activity, etc so they can be enjoyed more frequently rather than never seen. When was the last time you saw a graphics participant? SFA participant? They're pretty rare.

 

I didn't even know the existed lol. I'll ask him if he can lower the post count in those sections as well. Only those two though because I don't want to increase spam in the other sections but the thing about SFA is the type of posts there are very specific. You need to be argumentative and good at it, not just a stubborn bastard who has no proof behind his statements and I don't want SFA to turn into that.

We'll see how it goes though.

Basically any section that isn't all that active should have it reduced imo - but yeah. Thanks for bringing this to Matthew's attention Dave, it's appreciated.

Find your image on Google, I recommend using transparent search to avoid ugly background boxes which can be a hassle if you use this simple method:

Click the image of choice, then choose "View original image"

Check the image is transparent, I usually just quickly drag the image on to the nav-bar and if a white border appears, it's not transparent

Next, go to www.online-image-editor.com and paste the direct link you got from "View original image" in to the upload box:

You'll find a toolbar above your image, find the "Resize" tool and resize the image so it's no bigger than 32x32.

Have "Aspect ratio" ticked to avoid stretched/blurry icons

Apply this change and then right click the image and "copy image":

Go to www.imgur.com and hold Ctrl+V to upload the icon:

This step is important, as although you can get a direct link from the editor, they expire shortly.
