General Discussion has gotten worse and worse over the years but at this point I'd say its reached an all time low. [1] Its as though staff ignore it altogether, I've reported several threads that are against rules (stupid "favorite" threads, or "would you rather" post farms) to no avail. [2]
The forum is bombarded by newfags bumping every thread on the first 3 (or more!) pages for post count or shitposting new threads every other day. [3] There are THREE threads on the first page involving the premise of going back in time.. Several stupid ass drug threads. And TONS of "which do you prefer" threads. Its a shitposters haven. [4]
TLDR archive, delete, infract. The section fucking sucks. [5]
[1] In order for me to accept this claim that the General Discussion has gotten worse rather than better, I must first have a scale that said posts can be measured on. Worse is a relative term based on the users opinion on what qualifies as "good" and what qualifies as "bad".
[2] Staff have much more important things to do than prevent somebody from asking about other's favorite cereals. The job of a moderator is not to hinder discussion between users, it is to moderate and remove content that does not belong on the forum. If I recall correctly "General Discussion" applies to Discussion about anything in general, so those posts belong in the forum.
[3] Yes, they made a post and we upped their post count. I don't see the issue here. Unless their post is legitimately spam (i.e. "lololololololol so funny"), a valid response to the question being asked is an acceptable "post" thus upping the post count.
[4] If the threads bother you, don't open them and don't post on them. If they are on the front page, two things either happened. #1, it's either a new thread. #2, someone recently posted on it. I believe that both of these are acceptable reasons to have a thread on the first page. If it's not a good thread, it'll fall down the page eventually.
[5] This post that you made, is just as bad, if not worse quality than those you are hating on. It contains profanity and does not provide legitimate arguments supporting your claim
I agree to a point. General discussion is literally the hotspot for scammers to grab a few easy posts. [1] Most of the threads in there are recycled crap anyways. [2]
[1] If somebody is judging whether any user is trustworthy or not by their post count, said user deserves to be scammed.
[2] There are thousands of posts on this forum you have never even clicked open, so how would you know if it is recycled or not. If somebody posts a thread, and it is receiving replies, that is beneficial to the site and we should allow the discussion to continue, even if 5 days ago you saw a thread similar. (That thread is probably on page 5-10 and is never going to be seen or read again)
Shit threads beats no threads[1][2]
[1] Yes, this is true.
[2] Don't assume all threads in that forum are "shit".
General discussion always had threads like that. If you go 200 pages back you will see for yourself. More of the similar threads are just surfacing. [1] If we close those threads, activity in that section dwindles significantly. [2]
[1] It is obvious that content will continue resurfacing because not everybody saw the previous content.
[2] Even if the activity doesn't dwindle (it will), you have to also remember it takes the staff time and effort to close threads. People will continue posting General Discussion threads in the General Discussion section and then half will get closed down.
I've been here a few years, [1] I'm aware the section has always KINDA sucked it is getting out of hand lately. I mean three threads on the first page with the premise of time travel. Shit like "how to inhale weed most effectively" (that's a real fucking thread..) used to get closed and or moved to SF. And these "which would you prefer" threads are blatantly against rules. [2]
[1] Let me just clarify that "being here few years" = you know everything
[2] I could go into any forum and find plenty of posts that I deem "poor content" while other think it's a legit discussion. Also, stop using bad language, that ruins post content.
Support this. Newfags [1] use this forum to post two word replies [2] and get pc up [3]
[1] Newfag is a relative term. To me you are a newfag because I joined prior to you.
[2] Two word replies are indeed posts aren't they? Thus you count the posts that they make.
[3] PS: Stop posting worthless posts on Feedback threads to up your postcount, newfag.
No support, if the threads aren't breaking the general discussion rules then they should stay, if you don't like the current threads being made make some of your own?[1]
[1] Completely agree.
Are you fucking retarded? This thread was made pointing out numerous threads and topics that ARE against rules that are being allowed because some believe as Roary said "shit threads are better than no threads" or whatever. Pretty sure you don't get PC here, go back to GD to spam.[1]
[1] Not even going to say anything. I lol'd too hard.
*links*
Then we've got "how to smoke weed most efficiently" thread with like 3-4 others involving the premise of time travel. This is only the first two pages. The other threads are filled with spam 2-3 word answers as well.[1]
[1] Read all the posts by nodnarbusn above. They are all essentially the same thing over and over. (he doesn't like time travel, 2-3 word answers, and doesn't know how to smoke weed efficiently) Please stop posting "poor and repetitive content".
Please refer back to your original post where you talk about "threads including the premise of going back in time" which are not against rules, yet you brought it up in this thread, and it's quite obvious you're referring to my thread.[1]
[1] Mootrucks for president.
Good threads brings more good threads[1][2]
[1] First off, this is completely untrue. Content posted by a user on a forum will not change based on content of another user. When have you ever tried to "keep your post" up to par with other users.
[2] No threads brings..... Nothing.
Actually, either the staff don't like you or what 'cos I'm sure another thread there was moved to media section, clearly they dont see it as against the rules, [1] so... maybe if there's some sort of way to have posts be limited to more then 5 letters, 100 letters then allow it to be posted ..perhaps?
[1] Too many commas and have no clue what you are saying. Stopped reading.
[I'm too lazy to quote all the rest of the posts because they are all the same content and I think they are all very poorly written posts. Delete every post here please]
