    So, I've not been keeping an eye on the advancements of mobile technology.

    When I say mobile, I'm talking unfixed opposed to device/handset.

    After a little research today I've realized that some of this new technology far surpasses anything I'm capable of reaching in my area of living.

    For example;

    [IMG]

    Is what I currently get from my house. In my previous address I had 155Mb down and 20Mb up. However, I cannot achieve any higher that what I've shown here at this address. It would also appear, that it's unlikely I'll be able to upgrade my services within the next few years due to investments in the roll-out for fiber. So I'm looking at alternatives.

    Here's what I came across.
    D-LINK 4G LTE Router | DWR-921
    http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/home-solutions/connect/broadband-modems-and-routers/dwr-921-4g-lte-router

    This is a proven 4g device with unbelievable download speeds, and more shockingly consistent upload speeds. The device costs ~ £150 from the retailers I've checked. However, it's the bandwidth that's the issue.

    For a plan with EE will set you back £30 p/m for 25Gb of data. Now, this would be eaten up within a day or two for my usage. So not a great choice. The problem is, that is literally the best deal you can get. I cannot find a provider who offers more data for a reasonable price. Let alone find any who provide an unlimited data plan.

    So I currently have no cards to play. Either, I wait for fiber to be installed in my area, or wait for an unlimited data plan. Unless, I decide to pay for a £40,000 + £1,300 PCM install of a leased line.

    My question is whether there are any other technologies I'm missing, or if there are any providers who can offer me what I want.

    Unlimited data is as of yet infeasible, especially on large scales. The infrastructure simply wouldn't be able to take the strain. Imagine thousands of people accessing tower networks, streaming and torrenting with their large amounts or unlimited amounts of data: the whole system would crash, calling and texting included. It's just not possible and won't be for a while. Data is also the biggest cash cow in the world so even when the infrastructure is ready to handle the load, companies won't roll out unlimited data plans because they'd lose out on their precious $$.

    I don't know about in the UK but in Canada there are a couple of providers with very small tower networks. These companies operate on the basis of city-wide infrastructure as opposed to province or country wide. Wind Mobile is an example (look them up for what I mean). These types of companies can provide unlimited data with throttling after a certain cap is reached because of the concentration of their network. Fewer people have access to it so these few people can use it with more freedom. Check and see if you have any providers like that in the UK.

    Otherwise, you're stuck.
