ChineseKid ban dispute

Hello everybody,

I'm ChineseKid. As many of you know, i mainly worked in the graphics section on Sythe.

I was banned for "plagiarism" of Viou's signature.

Kinaesthic's definition of plagiarism is it has to have a different font, as well as look different.

My signature that I made for Star_Scream looks different enough that it should not be considered plagiarism. Plus, it uses a different font

the font that i used for Star_Scream's signature is Chopin Script font: http://www.dafont.com/chopin-script.font

If you type in VIOU in the Chopin script font, it won't be the same.
Plus, even kinaesthic said that he did not use the same font as me.

The only similarity i see between the two signatures is that both use A cursive text. However, they have different color schemes. Star_Scream's sig uses orangish-yellow, while VIou's uses a luminescent gold.

Adding partyhats and elysians is not considered plagiarism, as everybody does it in their sigs.

Several people already said that the two sigs aren't similar enough to be considered plagiarism, like noamyoungerm.

Another thing i want to add is that i did not rip any graphics. i believe that this plagiarism claim is completely invalid, simply because two signatures, both using orange or gold, and being cursive, are called completely identical.

Sure, it looks a little similar in terms of coloring, but that's about it. I certainly wouldn't classify it as plagiarism either. But that's just my opinion..

Well, the layout of everything is exactly the same, items placement, the reflection level on it, etc.
He must've been looking at it while makeing it, else it wouldn't be as similar as it is right now.
I mean, same sig layout, same font, same colour, same reflection levels, same way of displaying links..
..You see what my point is here?

This is what we came to when Kin and I were discussing it. Personally I don't believe you could of made it without looking and taken some/if not most of the ideas from Kin's one. It's just way too similar looking. I'd be happy with an unban with the condition he makes a new gfx that doesn't look as similar as this one.

It's not enough to be plagiarism in my opinion. Ripping graphics in such a way that it's a bannable offense, I think, is where you take the exact image someone else posts, erase the name and insert your own. You obviously created this graphic, albeit in such a way that mimics someone else's style. For that, you absolutely should be chastised for being unoriginal, but not banned.

It's far too similar, in my opinion. In terms of a written document, something doesn't have to be verbatim to be considered plagiarism - it's the idea that's being stolen. I see the same here.

I don't think it's enough for a ban, but I do think you should either refund Star, or make him a new and unique signature.

Creating signatures is art and people take others ideas all the time in art. Just because you are inspired by something does not mean you are plagiarizing.

He obviously did not take the image and change every few pixels so he wouldn't get caught. He took the general idea or theme of the image and made his own version. That's not plagiarism at all. He isn't being very creative but he isn't plagiarizing. To be honest, most signatures look basically the same anyways. People just take an image and blur and do other random stuff to it and there's your signature but in all honesty, the are all basically the same thing with different stock images.

Ask anyone who does any serious artwork and they will almost definitively have some people that heavily influenced their work that they have not studied under.

Heavily influenced by is not the same as a copy. The only difference between Viou's and Star's signature is that Chinesekid doesn't have the same skill as Mohtasa does, and the links Star wanted are different.

It's still:

Name in the same gold, curly font with rares behind it
email in gold
(gold box with text 1) (text 2) (gold box with text 3)

Again, not asking for ChineseKid to be banned, but he can't sell that work.

Just advise he gets him a new signature and lets all move on.

At University and any kind of Art Institution this would not be considered plagiarism.

It would be frowned upon where I'm studying as the style and appearance has been directly taken from the other, but it constitutes primarily of artist influence and honestly he can't be penalized too much for it (except maybe very bad grades ).
The ban should be lifted and he should refund his customer...
