Chess Tournament

Interesting in starting a chess tournament on chess.com

$5 buy in, we could have a middleman handle the money.

I'm thinking we'd prize pool: 1st 60%, 2nd 20%, 3rd 10%.

The remaining 10% would go to Sythe, in respects, as it is the gathering place of this tournament. If approved it could be donated by the winner so they'd get a donor status.

Hopefully we can get 10-20 chess players to be interested in this. If we get enough players we'll contact the middleman and start accepting buy-ins, and make the brackets.

What do you guys think? Post here if you'd be interested and I'll start a participant list.

 

Be cool, if I didn't suck so hard at chess. I'm still somewhat interested though. Depending on how confident other people sound ;P

 

Not really possible to play for money/rewards online because you can cheat by using a program to play against your opponent and win every game.

 

Wouldn't there be a way to monitor that? Like timed games, screenshare, etc.

 

No. It's as easy as having a second browser that they play the same movements as their opponent against the computer on the hardest setting and copy the computer's response, and someone could just do the same on their phone or another computer to avoid screenshare.

 

Super valid point. Definitely not going to work. Maybe come up with another game to use?

 

Definitely something I'd be interested in. But like Xier0 said, it might be hard to compete online without people cheating.

I'm down if there's a solution.

The problem with chess is I could just runner deep shredder and beat everyone in the tournament, take home the winnings.

If you're going to do it, do it for free or a mini-rank here. Wagers shouldn't be used.

There's pretty much no way to eliminate someone from doing it, the best bet is to not wager money.

 

That would pretty cool, i don't know how to play chess though, if it was checkers i would be down for sure.

 

Iirc sythe used to run chess tournaments but there was just no way to stop the rampant cheating, it's just too easy.

I would be down to participate in one for fun though
