Wasn't sure where to ask this, but I think this forum seems appropriate enough.

Anyway, a couple months back I sold an RS account. Just today, the buyer initiated a chargeback. However, we did the claim and cancel method, so PayPal is apparently going to deal with the credit card company themselves. Here's their response to me:

Paypal said:
The buyer has chosen to file a chargeback with the card issuer. Because you have already done your part to help with this investigation by using our Resolution Center, you can consider this matter resolved.

You do not need to participate in this investigation; PayPal will deal directly with the credit card company on your behalf and will absorb any costs involved. However, we might email you at a later date with a request for more information about this transaction. If this happens, we will certainly appreciate your prompt response.

When I read this, it implies to me that PayPal will manage the entire dispute themselves and I will end up with my money intact. However, I'd like someone more experienced to let me know whether or not I have anything to worry about, and if I should just close my account and rid myself of the problem.

Also, can anyone answer whether or not I can close my account if it has negative funds?

Naw you cant close your account if it had negative funds. As long as the money isn't a whole lot paypal wont do anything but you won't be able to use the account.

Well, what could they really do to me. Let's pretend that my address is fake, I have no cc/bank info, and I'm under a proxy. Even if the amount was high, could they really do anything?

Also, for future reference, if I open an account to accept the money for a sale, and then spend the money right away and close the account, could the buyer charge back anyway?

The buyer can charge back even though if you send it, I think. You wouldn't be able to send much unless you get it verified because it would be limited, and usually the credit card companies take the money back otherwise it's their loss.

You can send enough without getting it verified. I have a couple of paypal accounts that are not verified, and you can send a couple thousand im pretty sure.
