Chaotic Rapier vs Chaotic Maul

Well, there have been many threads about it, and every time I read it people keep saying rapier over maul.

I however always feel differently, and want to get your opinions, I may be thinking differently because of the account and situations.

So here is my situation-

I do not need it for training, boss hunting or any PvM whatsoever.
I only pk
I will be a 1def pure, 80 attack, 99 str, 1 def, 60-70 hp, 43 prayer, 99 range, I will be around 80 Cb.

What I was thinking was to rune knife, quick switch to chaotic maul, then quick switch again to g maul spec.

I'm not quite sure, but i'm almost positive most people around 80 cb are 1 def pures.

I'd like to get everyone's thoughts on to get rapier or maul first with my situation, thanks

 

It really is just a case of getting both. Both are fantastic at what they do and having both stops you from boredom of one weapon.

Just like back in the day, whip to dds all day got boring so it was good to mix it up with dharoking.

As for which one to get first, I'd go Maul. Because by now you've probably done a lot of whip pking and rapier is very similar (though rapier is a whip on roids =[)

 

well for a 1 def pure i would use the magic short bow with sara arrows then whip out maul then gmaul consent rape

i love doing that on my main but pure would be a bit more easy cause there def wouldnt be fully maxed out

 

well yeah, that's what i was thinking kabal, its so much similar to another weapon, so why do people get it?

what does a mage short bow with sara arrows do exactly?

 

but instead of the ags use maul

 

I saw the vid.. didn't really look like those arrows did anything special though? was thinking rune knifes just for the insane speed

 

Rapier is better of for pking since it does more damage per minute and makes koing much much easier, all you need is a dds. Rapier constantly hits high on low defence. It's only my view through a maxed zerker. Maul is great though since sometimes you can get lucky with your hits making a great ko, but you may get frustrated through its uncommon low hits. O, btw with 70 HP you'll be 81 combat .

 

These items are like the gods..
Sara = Maul meaning slow and protective due to high hits
Guthix = longsword meaning balanced between rapier and maul ;/
zammy = Rapier meaning fast and aggressive due to speed and hits

Tbh It's more maul for zammy and rapier for sara..
Anyway, Both would be pretty awesome, however, I expect you'd have trouble getting fights if you've got your rapier out. Having said that- Rapier will be very accurate against 1 defence and will be hitting almost as high but alot faster.

 

get the maul in my opinion.
you can range/2h with it since you'll have 99 range anyway.

plus the cmaul gmaul combo is stupid good for pures if you can get the switch down. (to land all 3 hits at once)

 

Yeah sounds good.. What about mage though? 94 for Barrage?

 

barrage would be cool but you don't really need it for range2h pking.. it kinda just takes space for the runes XD

 

I just got my rapier yesterday, it's pretty worth it. Plus, seeing that you're 1 defence and will probably be fighting against other pures, the rapier is definitely better. The maul is better for higher level pking, seeingn that you need to hit through high level armour + defence. However, against other pures, rapier is higher DPS

 

your setup would work for the maul, so you can go ahead and get it
but if i also suggest putting in some time and later getting the rapier too, definately worth it

 

Your setup would rape. However, rapier is the best overall weapon in the game. You will own with rapier as your primary. If it were up to me (I own both, and have used both in the wild) the rapier is a better choice even if all you do is PK. People safe like maaaad when you whip out the maul. Once they see you have it they eat at like 600. If you just want a combo weapon honestly claws work better in basically every situation :/.

That's not to get you down though, either way will work. It's really up to you and how you prefer your style of pking.

 

For a pure, I would use rapier. Maul's only worth it if you have defense actually to hit through.

 

Maul is the best for pking. Especially if you want to finish somebody off.

Rapier is better for everything else. It is fast and hits like a godsword.

I prefer the rapier, mainly because I don't pk that much.

 

Maul, you'll most likely 1-3 hit other pures with it anyways lol.

 

I'm really not that good at pking at all.... But, i do watch my friend pk with his maul alot.

And 4/5 times he loses due to vengance combos......

Not saying you will. But if your fighting pures with low defence.... that means high vengance hits on you + you have low defence so they can get the combo.

Personally id go with rapier.

 

you can only get vengeance with 45 defence + lunar diplomacy.. at around 80combat i dont think there are alot of 45 def guys, if there were i still think i could ko them with a maul....


OT: reading everyone elses opinions and doing a bit more thinking, i've been thinking and i actually think maul -> dclaw specs or maul -> dds could rape even more than maul -> gmaul spec, still not sure though
