When Jagex released the Grand Exchange, I didn't even bother counting how many times they bragged how it would "stabilize prices" and prevent individual RS players from influencing the market price of an item.

To test the theory, I waited some time for the Exchange prices to level out before starting my experiment. Using three accounts, I invested over 1m in offers for the first item that came to my mind: kebabs (please don't laugh :D )
At the time the market price was 1-2gp, and had been there since the exchange was released.

One week and 3.5k kebabs later, the market price for kebabs was a whopping 7gp :o . This may not sound like much, but keep in mind it's only been a week and I only used 3 accounts. By my calculations, I will have 20k kebabs by Christmas and the market price will be nearing 40gp.

Think of the possibilities: An army of accounts flooding the exchange for one particular item. Prices would skyrocket, affecting not only the exchange but general stores, duel arena, etc.

Interesting..

PS: Anyone interested in 20k kebabs :D

its easy enough to do with a kebab. try doing it with something more expensive and it probably won't work.

thats pretty sweet, maybe sythe could coordinate mass buys and mass sells for the benefit of its members.

lol. I made a post about maybe a Sythe organised events. Like the healing others in w2 Fally so it look like damage, we could all get cabbages and drop them in fally, a huge cock in w2 fally and that would be a good idea too. :p

yeah check out my first extremely important thread , dont worry i read yours and it is a very good point :)

i think i would have to agree with him unless u get a crap load of ppl

Did u make money out of it?
Could be manipulated yes.
But the more popular the item the more people and cash we would need.
Something like Yew logs or coal we would need 1000 accounts and say.
10m on each account?
So I don't think we could manage it.

I think that anyone with some experience making bots could easily write one that will continually buy, say, yew logs. Then when the bot runs out of money it will sell the logs in the exchange (Possibly at a higher price then they were bought for). With enough bots flooding the market, there could be alot of money to be made.

That's a really ingenious idea. And it is actually quite surprising that it worked. I wonder if Jagex will now go and screw over the economy again by making the prices stabalise for the more popular items.

just about all the items i have bought have gone back to their usual prices (yews were cheaap i got like 30k of em for 20ea on first day)

I haven't tried it for any of the more popular items.. but if three accounts can increase a kebab's price by 700% in a week, what can 100 accounts do in a month?

Are there any VB programmers out there who want to try making an exchage-bot?

PS: if anyone wants to buy the kebabs off me, send me a message ;)

You don't need a freaken asian bot to do this.

Get 3 accounts level 3 or whatever.
Put gp on accs.
Make all accs buy same item

Simple as pie?

If you want to up the price of something small like I did, sure.

But I don't think anyone would want to manage 100 lvl 3s buying dds by hand ;)
