Was Hyperlinking in UT's not made illegal?

I was under the impression(for some reason this triggered a memory) that staff had made hyperlinking( making a link in a UT clickable) illegal to do.


This is why I always used plain text and the .com, not making it clickable.


Has this been changed or has it always just been legal?

Typically I go with my memory/gut and for some reason I feel this was made illegal at one point to make UT links clickable.​

 

I've seen people with links in their UT since 2010, don't think it's ever been against the rules. It doesn't go against the guidelines on the UT change page either as long as it fits with in 50 displayed characters / 230 total characters so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do it.

Also, how is this a suggestion?

 

It was more of a question, I'm srb'd from the help forum for good reason,so anything I want to ask more or less goes here.


Also- I'm fairly certain That it was made illegal for the same reason we currently don't have a referral section- Fear of malicious links or overload of UT requests or some crap.

I don't have a problem with it at all, I was just curious if it was or was not illegal because I can expressly remember me being told at one point not to hyperlink it and to use plain text.

 

I've had dips of inactivity over the years so it's totally possible for this to have been made against the rules at some point.

Every UT request is handled by an admin member though, so malicious links / slandering etc. doesn't go through and get displayed. Your best would be to go ahead and try and you'll be given a reason by the admin who handled it if it does get denied.

 

Agreed, requested close on this but I'm leaning towards I think it was due to a major overload of requests or something.

I'm pretty sure it was pre-dave for sure, and might of even been pre n4n0 before that, couldn't remember but it seems to be fine now.

 

They ruled it to be you're allowed to have links in UT since you're allowed to have links in your sig as they're both your space.

 

Fair enough, it was illegal at one point then so I'm not nuts.

Ive just read the rules to make sure. I didn't see a rule about that. Advertising your website in your UT is allowed. However, you can't have links to porn/screamer/download & referral sites I believe.

Yeah I think perhaps Finn disallowed it at some point a long time ago. But it's allowed now. To clarify Thersgod's post, referral links are also permitted in user titles.
