Changes to how scammers are treated

    Hello,

I don't know where else to post this but i had a few ideas for more action that could be taken against known scammers on Sythe,

A lot of scammers on Sythe still go first to/trust sythe mods and staff with gold or real life money, etc. If someone is a known scammer on Sythe, would it be possible for Sythe mods to scam the scammer if the known scammer trusts them with anything, in order to pay back people that the scammer had scammed? Of course the Mod would need to show all the evidence proving that the person he took the money from was the known sythe scammer and everything. If we can't do something like this could someone please explain what the issues with this would be?

Secondly, when scammers are banned on sythe, why don't Sythe staff/owners release the full IP addresses of the scammers, just in case someone lives nearby and could find the scammers IRL and beat the crap out of them?

Thats all i could think of, these are kind of questions in my mind as well as suggestions, so if they cannot be allowed for some reason i would appreciate if someone could explain to me the issues with implementing these sorts of things on sythe.
    thanks

There is a rule that allows for counter-scamming

There are cases when users are later found to be innocent, pardoned, and and IP addresses shouldn't be released for a lot of reasons than just that.

So you want mods to counter scam? No contradiction there.

Edit: @Xier0, where is that rule?

It doesn't say *exactly* what OP was suggesting, but there is an exception in the rules for recovering stolen property

There is no such thing as a 'known scammer'.

    All 'known scammers' are banned.

You can't do anything with an IP address but ddos it. I could give you my IP right now and not give a shit, you couldn't track me down, all the Geo-IP and IP trackers suck, and only give you a rough idea of where the person may be. The closest it's been to any of my IP's when i've checked is around 100 miles away. Also: IP's can be changed in a matter of seconds with the flick of a switch.

As for the scamming a scammer part, if the mods were to scam people, then they would be a scammer too, and possibly even pick up bad habits.
Not a good idea in my opinion.

I would think of a "scammer" as someone who presently scams (or attempts to scam), or has not fixed their mistakes (paid back their victims) in the past.

Sorry to clarify, lets say that someone scams me for 1B,

Then i privately talk to Sythe mods and sythe staff about it, and i give them all the evidence which proves that i was scammed 1B.

Lets say he is looking to sell that 1B that he just scammed me for.. and lets say he goes first to a trusted sythe gold trader/ sythe mod.. would that sythe mod or well known gold trader be able to keep that 1B and return it to me, and not give anything to that scammer? And of course the gold trader or mod would need to provide the evidence proving that the person he dealt with was the same person that scammed me for 1B

I am not supporting scamming at all.. i personally don't think it is morally wrong to steal back something that was stolen from you

And just to add this is not something just for me.. just an idea i had in general to help out victims of scams on sythe. If someone scams rsgp and wants to sell that rsgp for real life money.. they will probably be looking for a mod or someone trustworthy to sell that rsgp to

and i didn't know about the rule for counter scamming, thanks for letting me know

Only thing is idk if most scammers would be fall for being scammed by their victims

Edit: when i say known scammer i mean basically someone in the stages of being banned i guess. Like in my example, after i show the sythe staff all the evidence of the scammer scamming me, before they ban him they would know he is a scammer.

Dude what drugs do you take ? So u suggest the mods to SCAM ? No matter is counter-scam,the scamming is scamming loool.
The mods are here to help/protect us,not to scam! When you get scammed, its your problem that you didn't take the advices how not being scammed, and they are many here...
I can't believe i am watching this on the suggestions section :D
Edit: When someone scammed you,its your problem not someone else. The only thing you can do is to report him so the mods can take closer look at the evidences and take action agaisnt the scammer (banning him) But suggesting anykind of scamming (like counter scamming) make me laugh hard

    This

CoinKing is basically explaining what I said/ment. Whether it may be right or not, mods aren't here to scam/anti-scam.

OP,just read the stickies, follow the verifications such as PM and etc.
If you are not sure about your seller/buyer,there is a lot of trusted middlemans out there.
If you can't trust the middlemans/mods with the amount you like to trade,it is simple - just don't trade :)
Peoples scamm all the time and it is really hard (impossible) to stop them.

Lol this makes OP sound hella stupid.

Anyways, although I understand what OP wants and means, I do agree with the rest that we should not counter-scam or 're-steal' stuff as that just contradicts the principles and rules of Sythe. (and IRL) lol.

    Hi omgjeans,

If you're scammed 1B and can prove it beyond doubt in the RaSc section, then you or someone you know is allowed to scam back that 1B and not a penny more. We wont release IP addresses because another wrong doesn't right the first; by encouraging people to do malicious things with an IP address, we'd essentially be no better than the banned user.

So, just to clarify here Roary, are you saying if he can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that User "A" scammed him, then he can counter-scam User "A" for it back, OR use a trusted friend?

Yes, that's correct - as long as the amount counter-scammed is not greater than the amount scammed by A.

So just for more clarity, what if User"B" who GOT scammed uses someone to get the scammed 1b back, but that user scams more than 1b. Are both User "B" and friend banned or just the friend that helped recover?

I just want to make sure the users here FULLY understand the context of the rule.
