Almost every book I've read in English class in the last 3 years is banned from almost every public school in the US..... Its completely absurd.

Nothing emerging about that. Clinging to, or rather trying to avoid, history is the case here.

Books shouldn't be banned, the government shouldn't be able to decide what we read. =@

I don't think any book should be banned for any reason. It should be up to people to decide what they want to read, not governments.

I also think banning a book makes it a more desirable read. Sort of like a forbidden fruit, just gotta have it :p

The constitution (Here in the States) has an amendment... the first one.
Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press. By banning a book, it's unconstitutional. Every American citizen has these rights; those cited in the First Amendment.
If the government bans a book, it's basically saying "Fuck your constitution, here's some unjust practice!"
even though unjust practices occur often in this country, these rights should be held to a higher standard. These are basic civil rights, just like an American's freedom of nonviolent protest. You are allowed to protest a decision / action / almost anything really, so long as it's nonviolent and doesn't violate any bylaws.
I don't know about other countries and if this is covered in your parliament or whatever legal document is relative to the constitution; but not letting a human being express himself and censoring his work is wrong.
May as well wipe your ass with the constitution.

    >_<

    Challenged and Banned books!!

Hi friend, first of all thank you for sharing such a different kind of topic here. Some of the book banning are really ridiculous, I was looking at a list of some banned picture books the other day. I think at the elementary level, it's acceptable to censor some things, but I think people have gone way overboard there. the last week i have just completed my essays on banned books, it was very nice experience to me. And I don't think that there are very many books meant for children that need to be censored, so as long as a teacher isn't letting their kids read trashy romance novels or mein kampf before they're old enough to separate these things from their own minds, they're probably going to be fine.
    Have good day..
