Xenforo vs. vBulletin

Now that we're balls deep in xen, which of the forum software do you prefer for Sythe and why?

 

There's still a lot of stuff being done so it's hard to say for me. I much prefer the vb mod CP and admin CP but that was years and years of custom coding which has to be recreated and I'm sure we'll get there eventually again.

Xen was probably the right move, there are many more possibilities now that vb was outdated for

 

From a security standpoint i fully stand behind xenforo, for me personally i see very little drawbacks if any

 

It is much easier to parse information out of that Vb was so it's making my life much easier.

 

Clearly I need more coffee since that sentence was shit. Xen is easier than Vb or, so I think, so Google should be doing better.

 

Xen all the way. Rasp is so much better for mods, liking posts is awesome, and I can't wait to see the addons and other features we'll have in a year or so.

I may get flack for this but I really feel vB is more polished from my eperience. I also enjoy the fact that vB's plugin and support community seems to be better put together. @Sythe one thing i never understood is why you never took that faithful lep to upgrade vBulletin. Don't get me wrong cause I like Xen as well, a lot. I just think that vBulletin is/was the better platform is all.

 

Now that you mention ir, I *think* i recall hearing about the devs leaving. Either way I would say thats a good reason to not upgrade. Xen seems to be a great alt. QUestion
@Sythe I seen you posted earlier saying you worry about adding anything else to Xen for fear of a breakdown. Why is that? is it the plugin system itself or do you have a lot or stuff added on?

 

I don't think the search is very XenForo based, seems more like a custom impl by Sythe.

I prefer vB in some aspects as I feel it has better UX then XenForo. To be perfectly honest PHP based forums are getting more outdated and limited these days, can't wait for a JavaScript based one with a seperate backend.

 

Hence the username LOL. I have never delved into a JS based forum. Are they efficient? DO you have any examples?

 

I'm in favor of the Xenforo change despite there being some features from vBulletin I miss. Richard/Matthew seem to be trying their hardest to add most of these features in order to make the transition easier and also make Sythe more familiar for which i'm pretty grateful despite some other terrible decisions recently being made.

Are a couple but they don't have the best skins but the functionality and feel of navigating through them is so smooth.

 

Xen is clearly better. I think there is a few minor vb3 things I miss at the moment, but it's most likely because Xen is not fully there yet for us

 

Am I the only one who remembers the "VB4 release date" back a few years ago? hehe

I would say VB, purely because the appearance and the overall "polished" look and feel I got from using it. Sure Xen works, but I feel vB is more "put together" if that makes sense.
