Hey Everyone!

As you may or may not already know, @Sythe has formed the TC (Technical Core) to get a Runescape Private Server back onto Sythe.org, which is super exciting news! As a representative of the CDT, I want to reach out to all of you here in the community and get your feedback! We want to know what your complete opinion is on what you would enjoy most on the server, what features you'd love to have, and what version you like the most!

With that being said, we have created a survey for all of you here at Sythe in regards to the upcoming server! We encourage EVERYONE to fill this out because we want to shape the design of Sythe's RSPS based on what you all desire the most! Do you want more mobs? Would you like to earn XP faster? Maybe a dedicated world for PK'ing or Trading? What about donation perks or even varying difficulty modes? Let us know!

This thread will only remain open for about 6-7 days and we would greatly appreciate if you all could also reply to this thread and tell us a little about what you submitted! It helps us know how many participated while giving us insight to what you want as well.

**NOTE: If you selected "Other" then we implore you to let us know in the survey what RSPS version and/or type you prefer and we will take that into account as well! (You can put RSC or RS3 for example) **

As a friendly reminder, we do ask that you take this survey serious and not create unnecessary spam with your responses. We will be aggregating the data and presenting it to the TC, Staff, and @Sythe as well.

What Are We Surveying?​

Over the last thirteen years or so, Runescape has seen many popular private servers rise up to become extremely popular because of their added content and extra features not present in the official game. With each RSPS that popped up, the creators were adding content and unique features that the official game did not have available such as: Fast XP Gain, Ironman Modes, Zombies, HD Textures pre-718, Dicing/Gambling, God Wars, Custom Items, and much more.

So, here at Sythe we didn't just want to put together a server based on what the TC, CDT, or even the Staff thought would be enjoyable. We want to ensure that what we publish is something that will not only attract our current community members; we want to publish something that people will want to play for years! With that being said, let's cover the questions!

We want to ensure that what we build and deploy is something that you all want to play! If you can see yourself playing on Sythe's RSPS actively then let us know.

What's Your Favorite Activity On Runescape?

Do you like to PK? Maybe you enjoy fishing and cooking? Whatever it is you enjoy the MOST while playing Runescape then we want to know! This helps us shape the features we include on the server. Don't be afraid to give multiple examples!

What's Your Favorite Feature From Another RSPS?

Have you got a favorite feature from another RSPS that you would love to see us recreate? Zombies, Ironman Mode, Easier XP? Whatever it may be, we want to know. Again, don't be afraid to leave multiple examples so that we can get a greater idea of what's most desired.

What Features Would You Like To See Added Or NOT Added?

Is there something specific you really want to be included on Sythe's RSPS? There are many things you could list here, so feel free to be as specific as possible. This also goes for features that you really dislike and would prefer to NOT be included.

What RSPS Version Would You Like To Play ON?

All RSPS's are based upon a version and each version has certain features/updates that have been added to Runescape up to that point (I.e. skills, quests, locations, NPCs, etc).

With that being said, each time Jagex releases an update they usually repack the client and data files. These updates/repacks, known as "Revisions", or versions, are one of the focuses of the survey. The revisions that we will be focusing on will be explained in detail further below. We wanted to cover specific updates and features so that way it can give anyone here who is unfamiliar with a certain version some clarity on what's included.

Revision 317 circa. 2005
Revision 464 circa. 2007
Revision 564 circa. 2009
Revision 667 circa. 2011
Revision 718 circa. 2012​

****VERY IMPORTANT: The Version descriptions below are NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE. It is possible to have a Version 317 Base Server load NEWER content from Version 667 for example! If you vote for Version 464 but want The Grand Exchange to be a part of the game, then list that as a FEATURE REQUEST. We will take all feature requests into consideration!****​

Revision 317 - Released: 2005

Ah! The classic days of Runescape! Revision 317 was released around May 2005 and introduced Barrows and Slayer into the world of Gielinor. This revision is extremely popular with a great deal of players simply because that is when Runescape was at its peak. From a programming standpoint, Revision 317 is an excellent choice because the cache size is small and it runs super smooth even on low-end setups.

To give you an example of what Revision 317 is all about and its capabilities, go check out "InsidiaX". InsidiaX was a very popular RSPS when it was active and people still use their source to this day. InsidiaX - Dungeoneering | Summoning | PK'ing Skill | 602 Anims & GFX ~ v2 ~

Revision 464/474 - Released: 2007

Here is another great example of a highly popular type of RSPS. Revision 464 seen a lot of improvements with the interface and some quests as well! The most widely known update with this revision is the Pest Control update which made the quest much more appealing! The interface was vastly improved as well, from letting you know when a player removes an item during a trade, to remembering your fighting style after you log out. Revision 474 build upon this one with the Halloween 2007 Update as well.

A few cons about Version 464 is that the Grand Exchange is not present along with the ZMI Alter. Also, Summoning is also missing from the game as well

Revision 564 - Released: 2009

In 2009 Jagex released the "Woodcutting Rebalance" update, which is what Revision 564 is based upon. In this update, the Woodcutting skill was overhauled and experience earned was boosted for less popular types of trees, as well as new ways of training implemented. Also added was "Sawmill Training" via the Lumber Yard. With this revision came other small UI updates and other small fixes. This Version does NOT have Ice Dragons in its Base as they were not included until Version 667+

Revision 667 - Released: 2011

Besides Revision 317, this is probably one of the more popular revisions in the RSPS community. Jagex decided that the entire chat system needed an overhaul and this update delivers just that. The text chat now wraps around no matter the source which allows for larger messages, private chats are much easier to type and send, and multiple chat commands were added so you could target a certain group (i.e Friends, Guild, Everyone). The in-game camera has been updated to allow full 360 degree rotation and the ability to move it up and down! This Revision has been used by many RSPS Websites for its massive popularity and for the updates that it brings!

A great example of this revision is "RevampedRS", a now-retired RSPS that a lot of players enjoyed: [RevampeRS] 667 - 25 Skills - Vorago - Ascensions - Construction - Bank Tabs

Revision 718 - Released: 2012

Still considered "Pre-EOC"
HD Graphics were also made available with this version.

Version 718 brought about some criticism because it introduced easy to obtain overpowered items that devalued older content and made PVM easier, such as:

- Dominion Tower: Introduced swift gloves, goliath gloves, spellcaster gloves which were overpowered and made barrows gloves worthless. goliath gloves allowed you to attack unarmed with the same bonuses as a whip
- Polypore Dungeon: Introduced Polypore Staff and Ganodermic armor. Polypore staff was an extremely cancerous weapon that had a very high dps output while costing almost nothing to use. Ganodermic gear was also very cheap and had extremely high magic defense which devalued Karils Armor which was previously used for corp beast because of its reasonable magic defense.
- Fight Kiln: Introduced the Tokhaar-kal which had +4 higher strength than the fire and max capes. It also crashed the price of furies by offering an uncut onyx as an optional reward. Imagine spending months training to achieve max stats and you can't even use your max cape because an overpowered cape with +4 higher strength was released.
- Queen Black Dragon: Introduced the royal crossbow which had a +15 range bonus advantage on the chaotic crossbow, making the item worthless.
- Updated item models: A majority of players prefer the old item models over the new. One thing we've learned from the release of OSRS is that people prefer older content and dislike drastic changes to the game.

317's are the only ones that last, period. Why is this even being discussed?

 

Voting 667 myself (2010-2012 period). A 317 with 667 features would also be successful. Forget any kind of 718 shit, it simply won't work.

Edit: I will more than actively play this for sure as i've said in the past

 

Revision 564-667, I loved pking back in 2009 onwards.

Will deffo play this if deep wild singles pking is coded properly.

 

Also guys dont forget to talk about some of features you want to see incorporated as well. Love the feedback so far!

What Features Would You Like To See Added Or NOT Added?

• Highscores, I don't think high scores should be released right away as it would take up time that could be spent on getting the game released, should be added like one week after release.
• Staff members should be chosen by either @Sythe himself or the Technical Core, additionally any active staff members from Sythe.org that will be playing the RSPS should be staff.
• PK point store but don't make it too good
• Keep items rare
• Holiday events
• Time online should be viewable some where
• Gambling (Dicing/Duel Arena etc)
• Ironman mode
• Slow exp gain for skills, decently fast for combat to promote active PKing
• Max cape
• Comp Cape (Later on in the game)

What RSPS Version Would You Like To Play ON?
317

 

Voted 667 since 2011 was the prime of runescape. Most private servers are trying to be "the best osrs" clone right now so there would be way too much competition and the sythe 317 server will most likely die out.

If you want the best pre eoc experience this is why you should vote for 667 over 718:

I talked this over with a staff member, and the videos that we had found were usually ones made that didn't cover the revision itself insomuch as it did the actual Server and its Website/Creators AND/OR was still an active RSPS. Bearing that in mind, and after speaking with Big Rich, I figured it would be best to avoid embedding them because we weren't trying to advertise within this thread. However, @DesireX If you can find any videos of now abandoned PS's that cover a certain version/revision's features and such, feel free to PM me directly and we will look it over.

Why the hell is 317 listed as 2005? u can put 718 content into a 317 if u wanted.

Also build a 317, If you want the RSPS to last 1 month and have hundreds if not thousands of more exploitable bugs due to the retarded amount of stuff in 667/718, vote that rofl.

What's Your Favorite Activity On Runescape?

I prefer to PVP, but I prefer that the server requires a little grind for our levels. That would promote longevity, instead of hitting max in one day.

What's Your Favorite Feature From Another RSPS?

I've always liked the servers that could manage a great economy for both PVP and PVE. Slaying caves, PK points, and low-drop rates interest me.

What Features Would You Like To See Added Or NOT Added?

Slayer. It would be awesome to get a good slayer system running.

What RSPS Version Would You Like To Play ON?

I'm split between 317 and 667. I voted for 317 in the survey because it looks like it would be the most entertaining for me.

 

Taken from RSClients Wikia: "The revision #317 of the RuneScape client was released on May 5th 2005, the other Writer of this Article was wrong in saying it was released at an unknown time between late 2005 and early 2006, Barrows And slayer came in the #317 revision Runescape, and later the dragon and axe in the #369 revision from about Early october 2005 to about 19th November 2006."

I didn't find any information to refute that that's when 317 was released. If you find any information to the contrary please let me know and I can update the list

 

But u can stuff a RSPS with content from any revision... just because it was based off 2005 RS u can put 2013 RS content in it ;o

 

Your point isn't logical. Only because I can get a haircut, doesn't mean I wasn't born in 1994. Of course you can add content to the old servers, that doesn't change what year it is based on.

Oh! Yeah @Bus369 I know that The dates were just a reference of when that particular revision came out. Its just to give an example of what Runescape was like at THAT time(Base wise). I should have clarified that we can load stuff from other revisions into another version, but I didn't think of that at the time. I look at those kinds of things, I suppose, as features.
