Caught for Plagiarism

if he wants to write up a report, does it go to anyone else before they abolish you from the school? cause to be honest, you can't plagiarize a one/two word answer. i understand that it's too general, but he can't prove it. if this goes under somewhere else, it's not like he can cite where you copied this from, because it's not a full paragraph or anything.

the only downside is the fact you will be on his bad side. therefore, you would have to make sure you're on your sh!t and get everything right so he can't fail you and if he is being harder than you than on other students, i would call for unfairness or whatever it's called when you single out an individual.

im trying to help you the most i can. what's the actual answer, do you know? im wondering if you could say you meant to put coronary arteries and not muscle. and just say it was a mistype cause you were so tired. i don't know if that would make sense as i have no knowledge in anatomy, but im trying to figure something out. cause at the end of the day, he has no proof if this goes under someone else. and im wondering if you say coronary arteries if it would look better and say it was a simple fucking spelling. that you deal with so many different words in anatomy and get them mixed up. even if that's not the right answer, the question asks for an artery, so just settle with the fact you got the answer wrong and essentially, you obviously need to re-study your arteries.

and as i said, at the end of the day, you didn't copy a whole paragraph. regardless if this is the same answer on a major website, who's to say you got it from the website. it's a 2 word answer. he can't prove sh!t

 

Even after ur reply to psycho, I still don't get how u can caught if its a 2-word answer even if it doesn't appear in a search. Usually u get caught for plagiarism if its like 1 whole paragraph copied and even so what people usually do is just summarise it.

I don't really see how he can say that you plagiarized over a two word answer, makes NO fucking sense. Have to say professor is a cunt, really boggles my mind.

Anyways, what I would say I guess is this" I have been overwhelmed with the work as our homework is the most important part of our class. I was entirely sure of the answer so I researched and tried to figure out and that's when I came across it. I didn't know I had to cite a 2 worded answer on a paper, if I would of known that I would of easily cited it. I am deeply sorry, and made a mistake.

HOWEVER. If its gonna fuck you over, sometimes having to rat someone out is the only thing you can do. If its gonna get you in deep shit and so on, you really don't have a choice. It's one thing when its something like getting caught by the cops for trespassing or something and not ratting on your friends for something measly, but this is your future/life.

 

pretty sure in this situation, snitchin' would do nothing but get them BOTH in trouble. he's not going to say, "oh, you copied off someone else, i'll write her up instead." nah, he's the type to write BOTH of them up and it's a lose-lose situation and you told on someone trying to help for no reason.

 

How could two words be considered plagiarism? How does your professor not know that you could have just come up with that term on your own? It seems a little shitty in my opinion.. You should tell him that you did not (which you didn't) plagiarize the quizlet thing, and that you guessed coronary muscle.

If you get written up, you should go before an academic review board of some sorts and argue your case. It sounds ridiculous.
Also, I searched 'coronary muscle' and 'coronary muscle quizlet' with no results. Do you have the link to the page?

 

Just wanted to give you guys a brief update. I received an email today saying that I was allowed to submit an appeal via e-mail regarding my situation. I have until the end of the month. Not sure how I'm gonna go about in doing this considering that I'm terrible at doing this, so good luck to me.

 

You're in a pretty bad situation. Why would you not just leave the answer blank? Certainly losing some pts is better than a 0/50 and a write up...?

You have to be honest about it. Tell him you felt the pressure of getting a high mark and you realize how rash and stupid it was to plagiarize. Tell the professor you received outside assistance and it went completely over your head to make sure you were attributing properly.

Question, though, were you allowed to use outside sources for this assignment? If so, the odds are in your favor. You can very easily explain a mis-cite, or no cite. If you couldn't use outside sources, you're in trouble because you "cheated" as soon as outside sources were consulted, cite or no cite.

 

Damn this gives me the creeps of how university/college will be like lol. But if I were you, I wouldn't stab your friend. If you have been friends with her for a long time then I don't think she would want to hurt you either. But from what I know, your professor sounds tough so he probably has a lot of experience in college and he's prob 1 step ahead of you too. So I suggest you don't making anything up and don't stab your friend so this is a really tough dilemma. Idk how I can help you bro but make sure to not lie to him because if he is experienced then he'll know what you'll say. Godly I tho and I hope you get out of this fess as well

This may have been said in a previous post, but I would take full and complete responsibility in this situation. I've TA'd a plethora of these classes and I can tell you from personal experience that the student who comes clean from the beginning will almost always receive less punishment. By "comes clean" I do NOT mean mentioning your friend. There is no need to jeopardize her career. Simply give as much detail as you can, explain the situation in full and await repercussions. I can tell you for certain that NO TA or professor wants to be the asshole that got a student kicked out. Best of luck and keep us updated

You're not late, thank you for sharing. I have until the end of this month to submit my appeal. I haven't started yet due to finals, but I will soon.

 

The appeal system (at least at my university) basically serves as a way for you to give the board any information that the TA/professor may not have given them, due to lack of info. This is very important, as it can either help or hurt your case. Any attempt at making excuses to rationalize your actions WITHOUT PROPER EVIDENCE will more than likely result in severe punshment, as it is seen as an attempt to evade punishment. Again, I recommend that you accept full responsibility and assure it will never happen again. Best of luck, my friend PM me if you need anything.

 

I'd honestly take your time writing the email response, because if you mess up, you can't change your message after it's sent. Take your time, but don't send it in at the last minute either. Please let us know how it's going when your SRB is over! OT: How did your tests go?
