The reason this isn't done is because searching the entire database of IPs takes far too much bandwidth, meaning it would slow the site down and cost Sythe money.

Besides, most internet connections now are on dynamic rather than static IPs. This means that periodically the IP address is changed, rather than being permanently the same. There are also proxy servers and VPNs, which are different methods of using an IP address which is not your own.

The easiest way to find a ban evader is to just check their email. You'd be surprised how many I've found out with a ten second google search.

I'm not even kidding here, when we used to run IP searches back when I was staff in the past, they would knock the servers offline. I'm unsure if it's been tested to any great degree on the new server, but I imagine it would get pretty much the same results. Sythe has a huge IP database.

As many people above me has said, a simple IP check would tax the server so much that we wouldn't be able to get on. What I'd like to know is, how did Sin find out that FFF was evading? If I recall correctly, I tried to see if FFF was evading, but he came up clean =/

    FAIL >_<

Google doesn't actually cache that much.

Maybe someone did run an IP check in the case of FFF?

And necro - you're back. How was it?

I'd imagine they did, as that was quite a serious case.

If I remember correctly, she recognized an email that one FFF's older accounts used on a different forum and saw that FFF used the same email. She then asked me to compare IP's between FFF and the other account that used the same email, and there was a match. I also believe that admins can search through registration IP's.
