    Cannabis addiction

So quick backstory, i started smoking weed when i was 15 and when i was around 17/18 i started smoking daily to cope with depression/anxiety. In the beginning it worked wonders and i felt like i could get over it by just smoking weed which sounded really awesome.

But the longer i smoked daily the less effective it was and my depression started coming back and kinda was like in "waves". So like good days & bad days, sometimes it also is very random i.e i had a great day and suddenly i have a short phase of like 30mins where i feel like complete shit. (this sometimes leads to social problems as in i go out with friends and i just go silent randomly for 30mins)

I recently started studying, moved to a new country and i cant stop smoking daily and it makes me feel really bad, which in turn makes my depression worse which sucks alot since weed is what helps my depression..

So i find myself in this cycle of depression -> weed to help with it -> feeling worse because i feel like im not in control. Should i try to smoke less or stop? (idk how) or maybe its better to just accept i need weed atm and stop making myself feel shitty about it?

To end on a positive note, i only smoke in the evening when im done with uni and everything and recently i have been smoking less (amount wise, still daily tho)

I am in a similar situation myself man. Smoke weed for 6 years now and have smoked nearly every single day. Weed is a strange one with depression etc.. As it can effect others whilst in some other cases it may not.

The best solution I would offer is to try block all your "dealers" or where you buy it from. Once you stop smoking weed and start to do a more active role within your life, you may start seeing good results of increased happiness for getting them done.

If your struggling to quit smoking it, maybe try a 'cut down' method. The problem is you say you need it, ive said this multiple times and still do; So im not sure if coming off it completely will be a bit challenging.

Overall id suggest you try cut it out of your life completely. If you see yourself becoming more anti-social or depressed without it, you could try taking some anti-depressant pills in replace of it.

Gl, Hope all works out better for you.

i personally haven't but i know a lot of people who get a prescription from doctors be it xanax or other drugs and it fucked them up

Also i thought it was well known at this point that xanax, ritalin, codeine etc. are very bad for you? just look how many people are hooked on those drugs

Look into how weed effects your dopamine levels and cannabinoid system and you will understand why you are feeling why you do.

You just trying to convince your self to carry on smoking when deep down you know its a problem.

Not everyone gets problems off weed but some people do, people with addictive personalities tends to effect more(OBV lol)

Hit it on the head and cut out the slow stoners out your life and you will soon enough see the fresh air lol

I smoke weed mate so im just the same i know its bad for me makes me down etc but i still smoke it, quite a odd one in all honesty.

Thing is people do not understand weed and just "think it gets you stoned" Well quite right it dose but there are several different type of high and every weed is a different high from the last unless its the same strain.

Where as CBD is healing agent in weed and its the thc that gets you high, before weed had like a 50/50 thc to cbd ratio where as the cbd counter out the thc bad effect and the thc countered out the cbd effects. Now weed has been grown to have like 90% thc and only 10 cbd ration which yes gets you super fucking high but fucks all your dopamine levels up etc etc google this shit i could be wrong about some this because just going off memory

Yea its crazy how little you hear about that.

I for sure have a addictive personality, in 2016 i gained 20kilos, 2017 i lost that again. I got addicted to food and then to cardio so much i negleted lifting.

My plan for now based on your and all the others reply is, i will plan a 1 week break (maybe more depending on how it goes) no excuses and see how i feel

I have quit a few times and in all honesty only managed when i found a "good" girl to distract me lol.

But if you are like my self any buzz is addictive haha, what i found my self doing is trying to keep my self busy and get a routine and stick to it, like your so busy you not even got time for it. i know its harder then said but i cant play rs or any other games like that sober it just blags my head so i had to find a new hobbie just to take my mind of it

I found also the first 3 nights are the worst its gets easier after them, i quit successfully when i dont hang around with stoners, if i did i would just end up smoking again lol

Hahah i bet the weed there is something else.. :p bet alot harder to quit there cause the good stuff is everywhere.

My advice might sound crazy but it's better than an SSRI prescribed by uncle Rockafella

Think of the short term , forget about living in a linear timeline if you can smoke and get shit done then do it , Smash Uni , write lists and get shit done .. And you might just enjoy it : ) no1 is perfect you are feeling shit because you are comparing yourself with a "normal person" , what is normal ? You've got to be pretty insane to live a kind of lifestyle that robs you of your happiness .. So seek Jesus & enjoy the fruits of your own labour . Pray , pray & pray again .

It's a mental addiciton not a physical one, which is good news since if you decide you want to stop, you can be confident that you can without any bad side effects. Some people say you can form a new habit in place of an old one in 16 days or some shit, in reality it takes more like 2 months and even then it only applies to certain habits. Smoking is good because you can push pause anytime and come back to it later, and the benefits of waiting are major. You'll get a better high per amount smoked after flushing your system, meaning you spend less money to get higher, my favorite part of any break..

I started smoking when i was 17, I am 22 now and I smoked every day up until recently I started a break of just over 3 months, since it was costing me a lot of money and like you the depression I got from smoking didn't justify the desire or helpfulness I thought that I got from smoking. Of course I am in no position to tell you to do one thing over another, 3 months break is a big deal for me since I also thought i'd never stop, since any oportunity i had to smoke I would take it then take some more, only sharing my experience to let you know it's possible and doable.

It took time to get used to not smoking, during my first couple weeks I found a unsmoked eighth while i was cleaning my room, so i had to blaze it. I decided to actually make this my last smoke for awhile and after finishing it, it has been. I stopped contacting my dealer and I walked away for awhile.

My habits didn't change from smoking to not smoking, i'm the same in nearly every way, i used to tell myself i needed weed to get through stuff, to be able to do stuff, but I always knew i didn't need it, it's just fun to justify things for recreational use. Didn't become more social or lively after stopping, don't feel any different emotionally. But i have saved a shit load of money from not buying multiple ounces, and I am looking forward to the day i decide to smoke again because I'm going to be stoned (probably faded) as shit.

Sorry for the novel, it doesn't really have a point other than you can quit if you really want to. When it is in front of you or easily accessible, it's easy to never stop. But nothing huge will change in your life and nothing bad will happen if you decide to stop. it'll always be there for you whenever you want to come back.
