I'm starting to get better and branch out with my signatures. I still want to learn thread layouts. For my examples below what would you expect to pay for these signatures and do you think I should still work on it before i start charging like the 1/2$ sigs?

Instead of selling low-priced graphics, you should just improve more and sell graphics at a better price.

Before opening a shop, I would suggest downloading Cinema 4D and Photoshop first. If you download C4D, it would help you improve a lot since you're making 3D signatures. As for Photoshop, I've heard it's a lot better than Gimp, never tried Gimp though. I know you use Gimp and you might not want to switch to Photoshop, but I've had friends who switched Gimp to Photoshop and they ended up preferring it.

You can still try to open a graphics shop though, it wouldn't hurt to try.

I've tried the photoshop trial and dont really like it. Gimp (to me) is much more user friendly and I've seen some people who can make amazing works in gimp.

As for charging for graphics it would give me some reason to make sure I give out high quality items and help me improve from customer requests ect.

edit: How much is C4D? and how useful is in in 3d signatures?

Yeah, there are really good designers who use Gimp. I would still suggest giving Photoshop a second try though, but that's up to you.

C4D is expensive. Not that many people buy it, people use an alternative way to get it.

You would need to take some time learning how it works, but C4D is very useful for 3D signatures. I wouldn't bother making 3D signatures unless I used C4D (that's how useful it is).

    Photoshop is superior.
Based on the examples, you could charge $.5-2 for them imo

but... you won't get that many sales, so you should definitely practice more before opening a shop. There's no rush. (y) gl

EVERYONE buys C4D and it's definitely not expensive rofl.
Cinema 4d is the easiest shit you can learn. Anyone can do it.

OP, I'd switch from gimp to photoshop immediately, give it 1-2 weeks and you'll realize that it is much better too.

My mistake, I thought he meant not many people buy the graphics c4d wise.
Just find another way to get it.

The best thing that you can possibly do is try to expand your horizons. You could try working with c4d, but then again, you don't have to. There's also adobe illustrator and photoshop that you should also touch into if you wanted to make yourself more successful. I see on other sites of people working on vector art and graphics on Illustrator, which you could experiment on later on. For signatures on c4d, I always use the greyscale gorilla lightkit pro plugin, and use softboxes to make the lighting look professional. Make sure you go into the render settings and turn on alpha channel and save as a png if you want a transparent background, it took me a while to figure that out. There's also safe links on youtube to download c4d for free without having to even crack it, you've just got to look at the comments and how many views the video has.

You won't learn how to use it instantly. At first sight, C4D is rather complicating. And it's only the easiest shit to learn if you're going to make shitty 3D texts.

I'll just do photoshop for now.

Swaze was your signature made with c4d?

It looks like a simple motionblur 3d text with lighting effects and it looks like you cut parts of your lettering and moved them a little. Also the animation looks really nice for some reason I cant figure that out in gimp.

Yeah, it was. I'm not saying C4D is hard, it's actually easy once you get the hang of it. You can probably do what I did in like 10 minutes. :p

As for the animation, it's simple to do. Just apply a white soft brush, clip it into the text, move it in the next frame, then click tween.

got the animation down. Slowly learning photoshop it just seems like a pain. after using trying out ps twice for over a week at a time gimp is still much more user friendly for me. obviously the quality isint 100% though.

Practice more until youre making stuff you yourself be proud to use, instead of cheap minimalist crap. Watch + practice tutorials.

    Post some photoshop stuff.

Edit: Get some brushes and figure out layer styles + blending modes

Before I started to sell.. I did more than 75 free sigs. Practice is the key and I guarantee you that if you do something like me :
    1.You ll make people happy
2.You will have sooo much practice and you will be 100x better
    3.People will know you

Dont start selling too early cause if you do, you will not have lots of customers and you will stop practicing.. :/

I find that having "real customers/persons" ordering for a free sig is way more of a practice than trying to practice by yourself. Also, Since its free, people wont be too hard with you :D

you can see my progress/the way I did it on my thread : http://www.sythe.org/graphics-marke...rill-reopening-future-graphics-order-now.html

Just scroll/change pages and click on the links. I edited lot of orders completed to just links when I opened my shop

Thats the second free sig I did: (i edited the first post on my thread so dont know wheres the first one)

last sig I did before I started to sell:

See that progress?? Man it helps, trust me.. I learned SOOO much doing this

If you do the free service during a long time, these are my advices:

    1. Edit your thread each time you did an order and put it there. You will see your progress from your first one to the last one. I did it and it was awesome :)
    2. Try new things. Its free so why not? You will learn some new tricks while doing this. Dont use the same effect all the time.
    3. Talk with the customer, try to do a form like I did. Based on the information he provided you, you will have to be creative and do a sig with it! Thats good practice.
    4. When you see LOOOOT people are coming to you for graphics and you have 9 orders per day.. (lol) + you think you are ready. Open your shop , starting cheap :D

I also recommend photoshop. GIMP is very limited and you will see that when you re more experienced. I started with GIMP and changed to photoshop right away. Dont worry, for the things you are doing, its practically the same thing in photoshop. Photoshop CS2 is Free from Adobe's website and I did graphics in it for months before changing to Photoshop CC

Man... I got SOOO MUCH BETTER doing this and now, after 2 years.. here I am with an irl graphics design business. THANKS SYTHE
