Hey all,

I'm building my first computer from scratch, I've done a very small amount of tinkering with my hardware though I've done more than a decade's worth of messing with software.

The few things I've done with hardware were successful and very minor (adding/replacing RAM, resetting forgotten BIOS password by removing CMOS battery and cleaning it out with an air can so naturally as my old desktop is very cumbersome.

I'm looking to replace my old desktop after 3 years and build one myself. I know how to physically build it and put it together but what I need help with is what parts to choose. I have no idea where to really start with purchases and all the resources I've found are very conflicting. My usage is very browser dependent, I'm not a heavy PC gamer but recently with the advent of mass botting I want to have a computer that can run a bunch of bots (more the better) pretty much 24/7. My budget it going to be a minimum of $500 - maximum of $1500.


tl;dr - I'm building my own PC to mainly bot as much accounts as possible 24/7 with a budget of $500-1500. I'm not a heavy gamer or use my PC for heavy video editing/encoding, so don't need ub4rz0mg gfx card v2.9193043.

Just good memory and if you want to save some money or buy more ram memory instead of an intel go for AMD.
Cheap and you can still OC it easy, buy like a 20-30$ cooler and you can OC quite a bit.

Very nice pc for around $1000. You can pretty much run anything on max.


For $1500 you have room to upgrade the GFX, add a supermulti drive, better ram if you like (Even though it's unnecessary, the mobo supports up to 2200 mhz) and a bigger HD (since you don't need much for botting, i gave you a 160gb). The processor is a socket 1366 in case you'd like to upgrade to a 990x 6 core when you get the money. You can OC the proc to around 4.1-4.6 ghz as well, the liquid cooling will keep it from overheating.

grand total $1,037. 2500k beats the old 1366 processors easy, and can OC like a beast on air(i've seen 4.5ghz+ on air)

 

You should definitely go with AMD.

Anyhow, I won't suggest exact products, I will tell you brands so you can guide yourself.

For the motherboard I suggest Asus or Gigabyte
For the CPU I suggest AMD
For the RAM I suggest Kingston or Corsair
For the GPU I suggest ATI Radeon
A nice 600W+ power supply will do fine
Bots don't require a lot of HDD, but I'd suggest a 7200RPM+ Disk of 500GB+ that just fits your needs. Don't waste your money if you don't need.

You can make it more or less depending on what HD or power supply you'd like. Considering you already have a desktop, there should be no reason you can't use a disk drive from that pc, unless you want a new one. If so, tack on about another 100 for a good supermulti drive. My build also does not include a case, because you honestly could put it in a cardboard box or leave it spread on a table to save money =P

Since you said you'd use this for botting, I wouldn't assume you need a large HD. Your best option for speed would be to go with a SSD, but they will run you around 100 for about 32gb. Good investment if you plan on booting from this drive.

I'm curious to see what build you can conjure up if you reduce the cost as I'm not exactly flowing in money.

1500 is the ceiling for my budget, hopefully my build will cost me less than that.

I'm sure I can come up with something, I just need to know what you plan on doing on the computer. Do you need like a massive HD? Are you doing a lot of gaming that requires a good GPU? What is the ideal number of bots you'd like to run? Is upgrading the CPU or RAM a possibility in the future?(We wouldn't want to be stuck with a hex-core in a 1366 socket if you plan on upgrading since it doesn't look like intel will do much with those anymore and a hex-core is practically top of the line for the 1366)

If you want a decent cooler to OC with for roughly $30 get the CM Hyper 212+
And if you want save a bit more cash and get a better GPU you can drop the ram down to 8gig, I have 6gig and have never used more then 3ish.
Also you can drop down to a i5 2500k, it's an i7 2600k, it just isn't multi-threaded(instead of 4cores & four threads it only has 4 cores)
And most people want a case...

If you go with this, get 8gig, it'll run better as it'll be in dual channel, that ram is meant for triple channel systems(1366 socket)

Welll I never think to pick one out. Usually it's personal preference what they want it to look like. As far as liquid cooling goes, I overclock my cpu, ram, and video card and I like to leave that option open because it helps if you're using a budget build to begin with.

The i5 and i7 may be the same thing, but the hyper-threading makes a difference. It's up to the user whether or not they see it as being worth $70 extra but since I was still under budget, I chose that.

I don't know why I picked 16gb of RAM. I guess It would save you a possible future upgrade. It's 1600mhz but the motherboard supports up to 2133mhz. For 40 bucks more you get an extra 4gb of 1600mhz RAM and more RAM than most computers. If you're going to run a lot of bots, you want a lot of RAM. The gpu is pretty similar to the one Noodles and rjs picked.
