It's a nice article, but you shouldn't start out with "as you know" because that right there deters a third of your readers who instantly think "no, I didn't know that" and they'll feel like they're missing out on something. That makes them not want to read on, etc

This is a pretty well-written article. It seems a little colloquial at times though in places, for example "it feeds on nutrients in the blood, it literally cannot live without its carrier", but on a whole it seemed like something strange enough to be in a newspaper and be shared with family/friends.
