Try writing down the error and googling it. Most of the time there will be an error code in which you can lookup that will lead you straight to the source of the problem. Most likely you can simply go in to recovery console and just purge the corrupted file if there is one. You just need to have the original xp cd that came with the Dell. Good Luck.

Okay mate, when i can next get to my comp i'll jot down the error code and search on google.
