Got A Promotion at work, My coworkers now hate me.

Hey Guys, Two weeks ago i received a promotion at work. Today it was just announced in a blast e-mail to the entire company. I got hundreds of e-mails saying congratulations but a couple were missing, specifically from 1 of my co-workers.

Co-worker A has been there 1 year longer than i have and is 25 years older then i am.

Co-worker B has been in the profession for over 15 years and let's us know about it ALL the time, yet we were all hired for the same position. This coworker thinks she deserves everything and doesn't do any actual work.

I on the other hand tend to volunteer to do things, i work harder than everyone else. We are required to open a certain # of accounts per month to reach our goals, i have been the only one for the past year to exceed his goal.

Anyway, my question here is, what the hell do i do? The work environment has quickly become poisonous. I can feel the resentment in the air and it's completely uncomfortable. Any advice?

TL;DR, My co-worker resentments me because i got a promotion and 20% raise and have been there the shortest amount of time. Advice?

 

They are mad because the fact that you got promoted shows their own inadequacies.

When I was on fast track for promotion at my job people resented me because I was newer and even went so far as to say " if Tyler gets xxxx before me I'll quit"


You just worry about you.

 

What line of work are you in, if i may ask? Are they avoidable? If not, theres not really much you can do unfortunately; apart from enjoy your promotion. They'll get over it eventually.

I work at a bank, they aren't avoidable, we have to interact quite often to be efficient at work.

They're just jealous, congrats on the raise, and there's not really much you can do about jealousy coming from other people.

 

Don't let it get you down, if they aren't meeting the goal and you are then you're the one who deserves it.

Just ignore it until their bad feelings pass.

 

Talk to your boss about it. Proceed to do whatever he tells you.

Alternatively, meet negativity with positive behavior. Bring in donuts or w/e. Smile, be helpful. After a month of this and no changes, then yeah give up. Old people can be such jerks in the workplace.

 

Become their boss.

I climbed the ranks and caught some BS from coworkers too, they will try and bring you down and backstab you from here on out. Keep up the good work and watch your P's and Q's around jealous little bitches.

 

The best you can do is to try and ignore it and not let that affect how you perform.

 

Just try and be nice to them and watch your back. Focus on forming better relationships with those who support you and disregard the others.

 

Don't care what your co-workers think, if you're more money, that's all that matters.

 

MAKE THAT MONEY, simple as that. If they hate on you, it's only going to affect them as long as you don't let it bother you.

 

Kill them with kindness, treat them with respect and ignore their BS

 

Just an update, my co-worker ended up quitting. Her last day was last friday. She was really miserable i guess.

 

Oh well, blinded by their own ignorance.

You got your promotion for the reasons you stated in the OP, you volunteer for things and so on, a lot of companies like that attitude because it shows you are willing and that you care. Higher ups in companies like that sort of thing.

 

Ignore the situation, and continue on with your job. That's how I got through the day when I was working at target. Gossip central I tell ya.

 

Well, my friend you are what i would classify as a high preformer. Well, you do the hard work and now its payed off. dont be sad, you gain is there loose. a good thing too remember is a coworker is still a coworker not a friend. Great work had work do pay of.
