Black hat

[Xolr]

I know what black hat is, but where is the line drawn?

What if you found a way to hack a game like runescape, would you be able to sell it? No? Didn't think so.

What about hacking a game like world of warcraft? No? Didn't think so.

What about counter strike?

What about call of duty?

There are multiple services where hacking in these games are allowed to be sold and bought, whether it be boosting services or certain tools or programs... Why is this allowed?

i also query this. for example you can sell dupes for private servers but not glitches on RS

It's a grey area seemingly so, however it's quite clear to differentiate when it's malicious, from our perspective.

However, you have to keep in mind it's perspective based. I.e, someone using their knowledge of bots/botting/game knowledge can use said knowledge to create RS bots/find glitches, and what not. From a black market perspective, that's not black hat, however from Jagex' perspective it would be.

I believe in terms of Sythe.org, the mentioned example doesn't warrant a ban, and rightly so.

However, things such as DDoSing, phishing etc, is and has always been ban worthy. The only time I'm aware of that the above is not ban worthy, is if said person was DDoSing, their own website to test their protection/hired someone else to test it on their site.

Where does it say you cant sell RS glitches?

Obviously you can sell RS glitch guides. They just can't be mass leaked. I used to sell one myself.
OT, Blackhat is releated to Stealing other's property, DDoSing, sending out viruses/rats, basicly malicious software, cracking passwords, exploiting bugs on Sythe etc.

Sort of. Blackhat and Whitehat are the exact same things, just how each is used. Meaning, using your knowledge for either hacking skypes, or using said knowledge for improving skypes security. There is no difference between the two, aside what is done with said knowledge.

The site's view on blackhat is something that can cause interference or damage to another person's possessions. Something like a glitch in RS wouldn't matter here.

I'm really not understanding the line here. From what everyone is saying it seems that nothing should be allowed.

Yes I understand it's a gray area, but where is the line. This isn't about glitches. This is about actual modification of memory and the game itself. Ex: hacking. Not exploits. For example if I had found a way to literally run a python script and instantly make stacks of gold in runescape, is that allowed to be sold? Similarly, if I was to run a program and see through walls in call of duty and sell boosting services, is that allowed to be sold?

[Roary 2]

You can sell duped/glitched gold as long as your buyers know it's duped/glitched, AFAIK

Bump?

Your thoughts seem to be everywhere, although people are giving you acceptable answers. If there is something specific you want to know, then you should ask that.

"For example if I had found a way to literally run a python script and instantly make stacks of gold in runescape, is that allowed to be sold?"

This isn't black hat, this has absolutely nothing to do with malicious activities that affect one's security. This would fall into either botting or glitching. That being said, good luck with that because if you did find such a bug, it'd either get patched quickly or you would get everyone banned. Sythe.org doesn't allow the sell of hacked or glitched gold, yet it allows the sale of glitch guides. I know.

"Similarly, if I was to run a program and see through walls in call of duty and sell boosting services, is that allowed to be sold?"

This one is even further away from being considered black hat. This is purely a glitch, and while glitches are allowed, I'm not sure of the policy about ban rates.

So blackhat would be considered if you steal gold from someone else, right? What if you steal gold from Jagex by... writing a python script to create stacks of gold? That's a glitch? No, there's a hard line between glitches and injection. I'm talking about actual, hard injection. Basically putting a virus into the game to give you a clear advantage. Where is the line? You can do this in CS:GO, COD and whatever, but you can't do this in RS, WOW and other games where you could destroy the communities economy. If you were successfully able to do this then you would also destroy this community in the sense that any gold people have now will be much less than it's worth then when they bought it.

I don't want to get technical and into intellectual copyright laws, I know that any selling anything in these games is legally stealing, but that's not the point I'm trying to get at.

The specific question is this: Why can you -hack- one game, but you can't -hack- another game?

I don't know what you're trying to achieve from this thread.

If you use injections you're using blackhat - banned.

If you want to be awkward about it you can PM Sythe and question him.
