Best language to make a game in?

I was just wondering which language would be best to make a game like runescape. I was thinking javascript or something along those lines. If you have any ideas please tell me. Thanks.

 

you can't write a game in javascript. Like runescape... if you want it in a browser, your only choice is Java. If you want it in an application i suggest C#.net. Easy to use and powerful enough for advanced 3D games.

Well, browser is simpler, easier to use, less complicated, more hassle-free for users, BUT application is WAY more powerful.

 

Yeh i think im gonna go with C#....not making a game, but learn it and hopefully one day make a game

 

Why would you want to make a game like runescape?

 

Yes you can and it has been done with a bit of success. Fordana - a multiplayer RPG - would probably be the most popular javascript game, although it has been shutdown for a while. I played it during public beta and as you probably know, it's ridiculously easy to hack. Anyway, you could make a game in Javascript, but it would most likely be in vain for the above mentioned reasons.

Besides Java, you can also use Flash to create a browser-based game. And, of course, you always have the choice of text games which opens you up to a ton of server languages like PHP, Ruby, and ASP.

If you want a game as extensive as Runescape then your best and most popular options would be the C languages and Java.

 

Bleh, Javascript is not intended for making games, you can't use 3d libraries etc. So basically you would get a game with static images and/or text which sucks real much. And Flash is extremely gay, ugly as hell and not intended for mmorpg's either. So, nothing beats machine languages (and bytecode languages) when writing games.

 

JS games don't have to be static and Fordana was not. I agree, though: leave Flash to simple arcade-ish games.

A javascript 3-d library. There are others out there, but that seems to be one of the most popular (even how little it's used)

If you want to make a simple game, like cards, etc, You can do it in javascript, or any other language. I've made a simple 'snake' game in python utilizing the pygame module. Although it wasn't really that great of an experience, I liked the outcome, and the fact that I was able to do it with a language I'm already familiar with.


If you're going to make a javascript game, I suggest you learn php with it to make it a bit more 'dynamic'.

 

honestly i think the best language to make a game in is flash. Its very easy to use , and easy to program and easy to upload online. The only thing is you have to be artistic.

 

Maybe javascript is TOO simple... lol

Practise at a private server using "Replaceobject", "case", voids and so on

 

java by far there dude, no real other options if you want graphics worth a shit
