    Being Russian

I am Russian and I am tired of everyone being annoying. I come to school and everyone asks me to talk in Russian. If I don't want to they say I'm not Russian. Then come the arguments whether America is better than Russia. I have these arguments everyday and they really get on my nerves. I came to school once when I moved to where I live now from another city. Nobody talked to me and I had no friends. Once everyone found out I was Russian, I was treated like the most awesome person in the world. Everyone started asking me questions about how it is there. I hate it how people don't like me for who I am but just like me because I'm Russian. At least most people do.

You just gotta be firm with them. Tell them you're not going to show off your nationality to them, if they make fun of you then turn the other cheek.. it's not like what they say changes where you come from

Just learn to ignore them and don't let them get in your way for success.

I have a similar story to you. I am Muslim and was called a 'terrorist' at one point. Almost every kid would call me that in my sixth through eighth grade years. I learned to ignore them. Don't ignore them in a way where it may seem you are mad/upset because that makes them come for you even more.

My friend Arson is from russia.. when he moved here he had problems with people calling him a soviet for a long while, eventually he just started telling them to fuck off and fought people where he needed to.

Now he's just accepted as an american even though he still has a heavy accent.

I know people from practically every continent. It's important that you act like yourself and simply don't become a circus freak for their own personal entertainment. Tell them enough is enough and just be yourself. I say it's slightly understandable that they are interested, but if it's getting to the point where you are getting annoyed I think you need to tell them. Goodluck.

Have you told them that it bothers you?

If they keep doing it then find some new people to hang out with.

There's a kid in my Youth and Government group who's Russian, and who just moved here from Moscow not long ago.

We were avidly interested in his nationality because Americans aren't subjected to anything but our own fatty, lazy culture. It's a burning curiosity that we rarely get a chance to sate.

So for the longest time, he was slightly annoyed with us too because we would ask him a lot of questions and would go completely silent when his mom calls because she doesn't speak english. And then we explained to him why we were so curious and he seemed to have understood so during one of our Y&G meetings, we just sat there and asked questions. Eventually, our curiosity was satisfied and (this will sound racist, but it's not like that) we finally accepted him as a fellow American, and now he's just like everyone else in our group. He's a lot more comfortable with us now. (We still go silent when his family calls him though, I love listening to the russian language:3 )

So long story short, Americans have a high sensitivity to foreign cultures due to minimal exposure. I suggest you try to satisfy their curiosity, and people will accept who you are and it'll be a more comfortable cohabitation.

Well, then trying mixing with people you feel comfortable around, friends dont have to be the most popular or the most ripped. Its the people who accept you for who you are.

If they ask you to speak russian, speak it. Be proud that your Russian, living in America shouldnt make you forget about your culture and what not.

And if they piss you off, you can always swear at them in russian. Cause they would have no clue what your saying. Plus get your freinds to laugh.. So then they would be like wtf -.- why they laughing at me..

    Hope all goes well..

Not true, our forefathers were immigrants, and at the time were still technically European/British. But I believe we've been here long enough to be considered true Americans if we you were born in America. Just like Native Americans were all immigrants at one point, who's forefathers (for all intensive purposes) use to be Asian (it's commonly known that Natives migrated through the landbridge that use to connect Alaska and Russia).

Point being, every ethnicity at one point could be considered "immigrants" to their current national boundaries. IF I remember correctly, all humans originated from one place and I think that place was Africa or something. It's a theory because it's hard to prove since it was so long ago but just FYI
