Beginner In Java/Server Question

Hey everyone I have been interested in the programming aspect of MMORPGs for sometime now. About a year ago I started reading up on programming languages and started learning c++. I created a few applications in C++ such as calculators, auto talkers, etc.

Recently I realized that the type of mmorpg I want to make (a browser based one like rs) had to be made in Java. So I am starting to learn java now.

I've already done the hello world app anyways, Im looking for some tutorials/info on making browser based applets

I would like to make either of the following

1) A java/browser based irc. You go to my website www.somename.com and you can chat with anyone else who is on the page.

2) A java/browser based game. A square box where your a circle and can move around in the box. Other people should be able to join in the box and move their circle and you should be able to see them. Id like the circles to be able to speak (text)

I dont know much about servers or anything like this so if anyone has any information/overview advice on how I can make a server and have people connect to it and when they connect to it then my program starts and they can share info/messages/see each other.

You might just want to buy a book and learn all the basics then try and look this type of stuff. :/

If you know of a guy named CMD ( alot of numbers ) he owns the site www.rscrackers.net. You can see if you can get in touch with him. He knows alot about these kinds of things.

Applets are basically just a Java application that you embed in to your browser. The only thing is, anything graphical shown within the applet is "drawn" there by different classes.

Well, if you want to start building an RS2 type of game, go to http://moparscape.org/smf. Look at the RS2 server downloads, and pick a simple source, unzip it, and start browsing through client.java and etc... Worked for me!
