    Ban suggestion

I'm just wondering, why is it that users that scam are completely banned from sythe?

Why not just market ban the person involved?

Anyone who scams and is found guilty of it should be banned for life from the market and that's just as far as it should go, as there really is no point banning them from places like general discussion.

A convicted scammer would never be allowed to be a moderator either.

If the person involved wanted to gain access to the market again, they must pay back what was scammed.

ALSO, this is not part of the main suggestion because it falls under creating new ranks, however: Along with the above happening to the user, a rank that displays in clear writing "Scammer, do not trade" could also be a part of it.Either that or something else which would clearly indicate they are a scammer.

The case of Atomic inspired this. I'm expecting tons of negative feedback on it too.

User A could do that just as well if they were banned.

It seems like a good idea, but there are way too many negatives attached to it. This would create a lot of unneeded work, lots of complaining, many people confused, probably more scams (people would still get scammed by someone with a "scammer" rank), and if you can repay the scammed victim to regain access to the market, there is really no loss. Overall when someone scams on this site, they lose their rights on Sythe.

Do we not have a "Ban From Market" status? Correct me if I am wrong but I have seen two or three people with this.

I know personally, that market bans are completely pointless.

All you gotta do is log out, view the market, get the kid's MSN, log back in, and there you go.

Exactly. It is so easy, someone on acid can do it. That is, if he's/she's not hallucinating that their laptop is going to eat them. ;)

And I swear that never happened to me... *cough cough*

As I said above, this is just as easily done with a banned account.

If the person you're trading with wants to look up your Sythe name, he will see the Scammer rank just as easily as the banned status.

And when they ask for a Private Message from the User, they see that they have a Market Ban.

    Hm. Not completely useless? >_>

Yeah, you could do that if you were banned as well. Just log out, clearing all cookies, then view the market. Furthermore, if the user was IP banned, they could simply proxy to get around their IP ban.

The only other way around that would be making the market private for those who have the rank (usergroup) and those who are banned/not registered. I don't think it's a bad idea if it's done this way.

    Interesting idea.
However, if they want access to the Black-Market back, and repay what they scammed, say if it was $10, maybe they do that, in order to pull of a bigger scam for a higher ammount of cash.
If they get banned from Market, they should stay banned from the Market, yeah they might have paid it back, but the fact of the matter is they still committed the offense.

Should also depend on the severity of the scam.

    Still, interesting idea.

Let me just recover from the seizure your sig caused.

There is a ''trade with caution'' system, but I think it depends on how much/what the person scams.

Trade with caution is usually only given to those who are not 100% deemed to be scammers, but are suspicious

I'm not exactly sure what a market ban is, but what I meant by it was that the persons involved would not be able to see that entire section. An i.p ban from the market also seems appropriate.

I'm taking a guess here, and I take it to be right, when I say that 90% of the scammers would leave, as they have/had no desire to be a part of anything that doesn't profit them.

I say you stay banned until after you repay it, but after you repay it, you can use other parts of the forum and still be Market Banned.

Why give them unneccessary reputation? Once you scam your gone. We don't need all those scammers backs.

Yes Useless. People who are desperate to sell won't give two stuffs.

Exactly.. IP ban's really don't do anything.. atm my IP is banned, so I'm proxying on til someone fixes it :S

I think you're being very over-logical with this. Why would they ever have any intention of paying back if they scammed in the first place? Also, why pay back when a simple call to your ISP will get you out of your IP Ban?

This isn't going to change. We ban them because it destroys their reputation. Even if they come back, they have to start from scratch... We tend to ban them before they have a chance, though.
