Babysitting your bot

If you only bot when you're at the computer and chat with the people around you, using for 8 hours a day or less, would you be considered "safe?"

I guess my question is really what is the primary cause of bans? What does Jagex look for in it's incessant bothunting? Most quality bots seem to have support for human behavior, such as random paths, random speeds, etc. So what's left? Really only two things and they both are in the player's control (if they babysit): chat response and time played. Am I missing anything?

So back to the original question: if you babysit your bot, responding to chat messages and limiting the amount of time played a day to 8 hours or less, are you "safe?"

Yeah you should be safe if your playing 8hrs or less. If you go above that, they might become suspicious. And also, its all about the bot your using, if it has good anti-ban support, etc.

Check out this thread
it's pretty accurate ;)

Great link. Thanks for the replies.

The other reason I only bot when I'm near the computer is because I don't want to run up my electrical bill. Is this also a myth? I use a very average laptop that was probably never built with gaming in mind. If I leave this sucker on for a couple hours every day will my electrical bill skyrocket?

I doubt it will increase a noticeable amount, but it may not be good to run your laptop 24/7 ;)

Haha, yeah. I was thinking more like when I go to the gym to let it run for the hour or so there and then when I'm reading late at night before bed to let it run there and such.

EDIT: Actually I do have a concern about Perfect Fighter now that I think about it. It seems very "botlike" when I'm killing cows in Lumbridge and gathering the hides and the procedure is:

-Kill cow
-Attack another cow
-Return to loot cowhide
-Return to kill cow
-Rinse
-Repeat

why is there so many: if i bot like this will i be banned threads? we ARENT jagex, we dont exactly know what they look for, if u bot, you ALWAYS have a chance of being banned. These threads are so annoying, if u dont wanna be banned, dont bot, if u trust bots, use good scripts, but u never know u always have a chance to be banned no matter what.

Lol, someone needs to get out more often. People ask and create these threads to get OUR personal opionions, not opionins from JAGEX. Also with that being said, you included that if you bot, you always run a risk of being banned. That is not true, I have botted on my main since 2002 using SCAR scripts for classic, and now rsbots net scripts. I babysit my bot every time I run it. I come to believe that if you respond to chat, and make your account safe from being reported, you are generally safe. What jagex looks for in botters if accounts who other players of runescape have "reported a player" if someone reports your account for botting, then you are done. If you bot safe, then there is no reason for anyone to report you, and you are safe. If someone reports for botting, and you are botting but reply and babysit your bot, your done. Hope this helps a bit.

Either way u slice it botting isn't safe bro.

I can't say I've ever seen anyone claim it was safe. I, however, would rather be knowledgeable than ignorant when it comes to the bots I am using.

In regards to this, if anyone else is having the same problem (very doubtful...), there is a simple and easily identifiable checkbox that fixes this problem under the loot options. Embarassing!:embar:

If you are botting using a detectable bot (anyone but RiD, but that's besides the point) and you get reported, you have a 99% chance of being banned. It won't be right away necessarily, as sometimes it can take a month or so until the ban is issued. Talking has been proven to NOT be part of Jagex's detection process. Players like Zezima and Telmomarques will not respond to you 99.999% of the time, so does that mean they are botting? No, of course not. Dedicated players don't talk all the time. Hell, even I don't respond to noobs asking dumb questions when I wanna focus. Or a player can easily turn off all their chat. However talking DOES decrease the chance of getting reported, which lowers the chance of being banned, which is how the theory that talking is part of the detection process came about. Nonetheless it is false.

Babysitting lowers the chance of ban, but it is not 'safe' as you are asking. I sometimes will report a player who I believe is botting (if they are using a POS script that is OBVIOUSLY a bot, they deserve to be banned for their stupidity) without talking to them. And if it's a legit player, then it's nbd, but if it's a botter, they are screwed.

I have very easy proof against this. I have several accounts which have been reported (I've seen the person say "You botting bro? ..... reported."), and none of these have been banned.

Assuming that this has happened to only 3 accounts and at least 2 months has happened, the odds that the rate is really 99% are overwhelmingly low. Going 0 for 3 in a rate of 99% is a .0001% chance. Do you really think I'm that lucky? =|
In reality, however, it's been more like 25 or 30 accounts where I can safely guarantee I was reported with no ban. Please don't use statistics if you don't understand the concept of statistics.

When you get reported, two things must happen to get banned. One: a JMod must read it. This excludes probably 95% of all reports from being read. Two: a JMod must see undeniable evidence that you were macroing, rather than just getting lucky in a few clicks. Statistically, it is likely that having a click pattern as suspicious as 1.400sec, 1.4002sec, 1.410sec, 1.3990sec is even enough to get banned. This evidence will probably be dismissed.

Thanks for the compliment. :)

Leaving your laptop on for 3-4 more hours a day will probably raise your electrical bill $2 a month. Laptops have relatively small power supplies in them, meaning they don't pull a ton of electricity. It's more important to never leave your laptop (and even the cord from the wall) plugged in unless it's immediately in use.

I've had times where it's been 4 months between the time I was reported and the time I got banned.

Plus saying 99% is an exaggeration; everyone exaggerates sometimes.
You get the point that the chances of being banned once you get reported is very high if you use a bot that uses BCEL or the Nexus client, or a mouse recorder, etc.

I agree that everyone exaggerates; however, it generally makes arguments more weak, unless craftily used as hyperbole. However, I feel that reporting only marginally increases a ban. You can get banned if you were never reported, like if you bot in a crowded world with 40 other people on your square.

I do agree that using the most sophisticated software possible does reduce the risk of a ban, though. This is true for report-related bans or bans where you have 0 reports at all.

If I picked up a woodcutting bot used by the Chinese RWT stores in 2007 and get reported, yes I'm probably banned. If I get reported from using AutoWoodcutter Pro, it's doubtful.

I got banned twice using that one, babysitting and 3 hours a day -.-

Guess it was a bad example, lol. I've never really heard anything good about WCer Pro, so I've never bought it. That's the best way to avoid a ban---see how bad the script is.

At least this helps prove that babysitting and short-term botting aren't really ways to make your botting safer.
