Aww If only it was available somewhere....

Hey guys! Im trying to find an idea for a website. I was considering one where you can download stuff... However, I need you guys in order to create the site.

Please note that the download system kind of site could allow other users to offer their own product to download if it would work better.

Questions:
1. What kind of downloads you think is missing or would be a success if all grouped together on one website. Example : 3rd party Plugins that you can find on different websites but theres no website with ALL the 3rd party plugins together.

2. If its not a website where you can download stuff, what would you be happy to see as a feature on a website? What kind of website would you like? Any ideas?

Ps:Im trying to build a successful website with new features that a specific group of people would use.. However, Please dont suggest something with rs. I want to try something else..

1st idea:

I think a music website would be a great idea? Something where I would give the possibility to others to upload their creation (dj, singing, etc.). They could offer them to the public with the download system. Its awesome for new artists that arent popular yet and want to make some money or simply get known, giving their creation for free.

Ps: it would be a website only for new artists. I could also do like : In order to upload your creation and offer them to the public, you need to download one of the songs on this website. (This would help getting more downloads and more popularity?)

Or .. Maybe a point system where you could earn money by downloading a certain amount of songs. Uploading a song would cost something for the users tho or i would have a Pay Per Download lol

2nd idea :

A forum where people discuss about business ideas.

 

A website were you could download all video editing / Djing / Mixing / photo editing software etc would be awesome.

 

A website where you could ask questions pertaining to this, and this only.

 

I will not offer illegal downloads though. I would need to buy a reseller license for each program in order to do this. One thing I could do tho is having all the programs with their description + the links where you can download it.

But I think its already been done?

Honestly I wouldn't even venture into that territory, you're asking for problems.

You're basically describing a torrent site that instead of P2P is actual DL links. If you're hosting any of that software (or whatever it is), you're asking for legal problems.

Now, if you're re-hosting like a plugins database, I still don't see it being successful. Chrome has their own plugin browser, as does Firefox so you'd have to go into a niche-like group. Perhaps make a site centered around the various versions of Linux and have them available for download? (I'm rather confident this already exists as well though.)

Edit:

You're not offering illegal downloads, there goes a large percentage of people who are looking to download from a third party. When people want to download a program, they go after that program through it's origin site (ex photoshop from adobe.)

You could potentially have comparison (ex: Photoshop Vs Gimp), but they already do that on their own.

Honestly (and I'm not trying to be a rain cloud), but you're not doing anything original and I do not believe it would be used.

I dont want a torrent site thats for sure. It needs to be completely legal.

 

If it's public where anyone can offer the downloads, then it's a torrent site...

 

haha, yea sorry about that. I feel a website that allows users to grab important news pertaining to their liking? Like forsay I wanted to know if there was a new graphics card coming out but didn't feel like Googling it all the time.

Then whammo, I log onto your site and it downloads the latest data on my interest of graphics cards, linking me to wherever the source it...

 

With the music focused idea, you will really need to go above and beyond. You're competing with Reverbnation, Facebook, Myspace, and Youtube.
My suggestion to you is that you must find something that will stick out, in that area. But it's gonna be tough.

If I were interested in hosting a popular website, I would go with anything newly released or made known to the public. And then I'm sure you can figure out methods to get the site at the top of a google search.

 

Doesnt have to be that kind of site tho.. It could be as simple as offering dowloads for certain guides. Your own guides.

I dont want to create a site offering free downloads of paid programs. Theres other possibilities that are completely legal.

I know. But I still find its a great idea I just have to search some business forums to see whats missing there.

 

Your first idea won't work primarily because youtube and soundcloud is most likely better for this. A lot of unknown DJs get known on soundcloud after more and more people share and like the music, getting into top charts. Youtube is good for covers as if someone is looking for a certain cover for a song, people can have videos of them there. Your first idea CAN work, but you need a more promising reason for people to use it.

Btw, I can tell you right now that people will not be bothered downloading other music just so they can upload their own. Todays world is lazy.

Second idea is an iffy one. It's certainly a decent idea, though why would someone use it? If you're on another forum like this one, you can just ask there (just like you're doing now). There are sites based on specific types of business with forums around the net anyway.

 

Its different when its a business forum only. Maybe I could expand the idea of doing a business discussion forum. I need to research about business forums in order to find THE idea that will work.

I think theres is very limited sources when it comes to starting a business and I think this idea would work better than the others I got so far.

I could also put the 2 ideas together. 1 - offer a download page where theres a bunch of guides and ebooks on business and 2- a forum discussion (all on one website)
