Is This A Fake Warning Email ?

I don't even play Runescape..

I never actually have..

I may have signed up for an account once about a year ago buuut never once logged into the game world..

When I go to forgot username & enter my email I'm not getting any emails..

So I'm kinda thinkin' it's fake.. but do any of you have any specific points to make on why it's definitely fake or not ?

yup definatly fake, happens a lot, somehow they get your e-mail and see you have a runescape account. WOuld be interesting to see how many accounts are lost to this scam :/

 

Yep it's fake, a member on the Jagex team actually made a tweet warning about phishing emails as they've become very popular nowadays.

At this point I just wonder what the idea behind that link is..

It wasn't even clickable in my email.. & I can't tell by the wording of it what seems to be illegitimate..

If anything I'd just think the few .ws were cause for concern.. buuut that's also because idk very much..

I did paste the link once & it just took me to a login site.. a person could say spoof site hoping you'll type your login in.. but look at the address..

it's not like rn instead of m or some tacky sly shit like that.. so I'm just curious just for curiosity sake where the actual danger lies..

 

Seems not fake to me. secure.runescape.com is the real domain of Jagex, why would a scam email link you to the real website? The real question is, why do you care if you don't play at all?

 

Its fake. Jagex will never contact you via email, only via the jagex inbox

It wasn't the real website. It was just a hidden link. If he hovered over it you would be able to see where it really redirected him to.

Yeah always ignore those. I've had them sent to me for as long as I can remember.

 

Lol the first time I got a fake email about being permanently banned I told me cousin to log on so I could xfer my gold. I then realised why I am still online if I am perm banned. lmao

 

Rule of thumb: Never log in to a site you clicked on through an email. There is always a great chance that it is a phish. Always navigate to the site manually and go from there to check.

Also Runescape wouldnt say Mains when referring to accounts l0l, only players do that!
