    I'll go ahead and make it as simple as possible. Don't upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8, but do get the devices that come with Windows 8 (touchscreen tablet laptops)

    It's just Windows 7 optimized for tablets. It has some cool features but it just gets in the way of using your Desktop. It does however make it easier to use your laptop, as long as it is touchscreen.

    It looks a lot like the xbox interface, a lot more condensed... seems like it'd only be a efficient setup if you have a touchscreen though...

    I believe there is an option to revert to the "Windows 7" start menu (unless they fully remove it) just as there was an option to move back to the "Vista" task bar in Windows 7. You just have to do it through registry.
