[APPROVED] [Suggestion] Update @Sythe's Welcome Message to New Users

The reasoning behind this suggestion stems from @ABM 's suggestion here
Remove this.

Since this system is built in Xenforo and I doubt it will be removed, I think we can at least offer some more information for new users.



Suggestion: Change/Update @Sythe 's Welcome message to new users after signup. The current message can be seen below.





Why does it need to be changed?

The current message is short and provides 2 links to various different situations and infomation that is all bundled in the thread [MOST QUESTIONS ANSWERED HERE] Sythe.org Newcomer Introduction/Tutorial! .

What should be changed or Added?

...Provide new users with information within the message via spoilers and a well organized thread

1. Where and how to report a scammer
2. Where to lookup past scam or vading reports
3. Give links to the support sections
4. Give a warning to new users that they are often targets of scammers and provide them with any relevant information about staying safe on sythe.
5. Add the spoilers found in [MOST QUESTIONS ANSWERED HERE] Sythe.org Newcomer Introduction/Tutorial! to the message sent by sythe profile after new user sign up

Conclusion: I believe that we can help reduce the risk of new users being scammed ( and thus maintaining our new user base ) by simply adding more helpful information to Sythe's welcome message. Sure, this information can be found throughout the forum, but new users aren't always familiar with Xenforo or the placement of certain information, and although most of it is already linked within sythe's message, I think more information can be placed within the actual message itself to streamline that information to new users.

Discuss below.

 

The new message should include information about impersonator scam. Especially the discord one. Use visuals also.

 

I was also going to recommend either a Video made by CDT or other visual aids of some sort. A short 3-5 minute video can explain so much about sythe and can help new users.

 

Oh right the first thing we should let newcomers know about is the scammers, that is sooooo appealing.


I agree it could be updated, but majority of people wont read it unless they genuinely want to and if they do then they’ll click the links Rich has posted. The info is there isn’t it? In those threads? If not, reading each sections stickies, rules or guides will ensure safety. If people want to be safe they will find it and read it, take a week to let it sink in etc... i know i did.

Compared to other forums this one is well equipped with the amount of information.

 

TBH when I made that bot account I actualy clicked that PM and then didn’t even read it because it looks like the average welcome message. I think more can be done. Maybe a popup message that appears for firs time users with either an intro video or the links to everything that’s needed

 

I'm with Sonia on this one. Don't flood the user with "Scammer" related items. That traders 101 topic contains enough information to lead a person in the right direction to keeping themselves safe.

 

No1 reads it tho lol.

 

I am going to go ahead and move this to accepted/pending.

We are currently looking into these changes along with a few other suggestions that are similar to this.
