[Approved] Community minirank auction

I blurted out an idea on discord and after some thought, it didn't seem so bad. It doesn't seem to be on the do not suggest list as well.

We should confiscate miniranks of banned users (after a certain period of time i.e. 3 months or after a certain number of miniranks has been accumulated) and return them to the market via community auction.

I believe implementing this would help keep minirank market healthy as well as give new users the chance to snag some miniranks in an auction format. All money raised should go to community repayment to help the user's who were scammed.

Some of the miniranks of Sythe's richest member looks pretty juicy.

Auctioning banned users' miniranks is already something that occurs on a case-by-case basis. The idea has even been previously addressed via suggestions and can be found by searching the "Approved Suggestions" subsection.

Ultimately, I don't think blanket or routine minirank auctions should occur. One-off situations are fine. The marketplace for miniranks is already super dead, and reintroducing tons of additional minis would only make that worse.

I personally don't own any rare miniranks (maybe Christmas '13?), but I'd be upset if I were someone who did, and suddenly that minirank was flooded back into the market. Think of it in RS3 terms - Imagine if Jagex re-released Christmas Crackers into the game. You'd be pretty pissed if you'd previously paid for one.

 

I don't think we can see the miniranks of banned or DNT'd users. So unless we knew of them having some prior to them getting banned then the average user won't be able to help provide a list.

I know @ARTDEAL3R and @Flights had some when they were banned.

 

I told Video this some years ago and he was able to do make a couple auctions happen but it has been a while since the last one. I mentioned it a few months ago on another thread too. It was mainly for the pokemon minis that were sought after by a lot of the community back then. idk if an auction would generate as much money now but it could still be helpful to victims ofcourse

I support this so much! but on another hand @owned does have a point, the minirank market seems to be dying down.. Only a handful of users are actually interested in collecting them like me.. Hopefully the CDT team can put something together to revive the interest! i know they can

 

I could of sword this was suggested before, but either way I'd love an opportunity to claim some miniranks.

 

I think the last one was 2021. Is there a way for mods/admins to easily pull a list of people banned or DNT'd with outstanding debts since Aug 2021?

If i could make a program that would scrape miniranks of banned members,, would that make it more viable? unless making a program to do that is against the rules.
