    Anyone taken the SAT?

Hi, just received my score report for december's test. Got a couple of questions

I got 710/800 in math at only 3 wrong and 1 omit

first off, I am 90% sure I did not omit any questions, and I would never plan to do so in the math section no matter what. If I order the score verification report and find out that I did indeed answer the question, and maybe got it correct, could that change my score?

Seconldy, 710 at 4 wrong is harsh. my brother got the same mark last year at 3 wrong 2 omitted same difficulty levels as well.
Does this differ from test to test?

They scale the scoring based on how everyone did on the test you take. There must have been many more people who got less than 3 wrong on your test than the test your brother took.

My friend disputed his PSAT score and was able to get it changed (239 --> 240). If you're certain, I don't really see a downside of requesting it.

You can probably improve and should retake it anyway.

710 at 4 wrong is the exact opposite of harsh. When I took it 2 wrong was a 700. I got a perfect score on the math section tho so we aight.

As Sasuke said, the SAT is compared to individuals that took the SAT on that day (not to everyone that has taken the SAT.) A 700 is quite high though (I'm guessing at least the 80% percentile?) so it's not like you bombed it or anything. Most people also take the SAT more than once so you have the opportunity to improve if you take it again.

But yeah, it does vary from test-to-test.

There's no harm in requesting the verification if you believe a mistake was made. Also, I highly recommend taking the SAT at least 2 or 3 times so that you can maximize your superscore (most places allow you to report your SAT superscored, and a high superscore also helps with recruitment for internships and full time jobs after college).

I would say don't sweat it. It's a number that tells you how well you are at taking the SAT and that's it. A lot of colleges are dropping the requirement for it because it means very little. However, the better you do on it the richer your parents likely are.

I believe your score is dependent on those who took that specific test, as well as omission. I took the SATs a few years ago and I heard they changed it recently, but it used to be that when you get answers wrong you would lose additional points while if you were to just simply omit a question, you would lose no additional points, you just don't get credit for that one.

I'm not really sure on how it's scored anymore, so this is just from when I took it. I don't even know if it's still 2400 or if they reverted it back to 1600.

I think they're reverting it next year or the year after.

@OP: You can dispute your score and get it changed, but if it was your first time taking the test, you should probably just take the SAT again (and if you work on math practice tests I'm sure your math score will increase too).

It's the year after. It's going to be out of 1600 instead of 2400.

    Anyone taken the SAT?

SAT is still used considerably in recruitment for internships and full time positions. It's also definitely still used by many colleges. There is almost no downside to taking the SAT multiple times to maximize your score, but there is an incredible amount of upside.

    Anyone taken the SAT?

Yeah, the update is in spring 2016.
Couldn't agree with this more. Plenty of competitive firms set cutoffs at 2200, 2250, and 2300 SAT scores, and I've been asked probably 20 times what my scores were.

    Anyone taken the SAT?

It's a different test, but very similar and same company. Scored out of 240 instead of 2400 like the current SAT.

Second this. I just finished going through full time recruiting and quite a few firms requested my scores.

I heard it's going to be easier which is unfair. I took it when it already and didn't do so well.

Only administer the ACT where I'm from, although you can take the SAT if you wanted. Can find some great tips online, try the courses too if you can afford them.
