Any chance of bans ever being accessible WITHOUT posting in What happened to ____?

I posted a suggestion a while back that was denied (I'm assuming) and referenced that thread. That thread is very helpful but it would be easier to just be able to see ban reasons.

Any chance of this ever happening or is it a privacy issue/too hard to code?

    Thanks

It would be easy to code. It's probably a privacy issue regarding whether or not it should be made. I think it would be an incredibly useful tool alongside the ip audit.

Ban reasons are stated in the ModCP, so unless someone compiles all the ban reasons and posts them, I doubt it.

Perhaps it's a feature in xF? I haven't had modcp in vBulletin in a very long time so I don't exactly remember, but I can see what you mean. I feel as though someone relatively fluent in web development could write some code to snapshot it or something. No big deal really, but sometimes I get lost on this forum because I'm so used to MyBB

I just search their name in report-a-scammer archive and usually find it; if it isn't there, usually a private ban.

Not necessarily private, just not reported. There aren't that many bans that can't be disclosed.

Yeah I do the same typically, it's almost more useful to just google "site:sythe.org <username> scam" and do it that way, since Sythe has search limitations every 15 seconds.

Whilst ban reasons generally do provide helpful information, there are times that it's better they remain private. One example I can think of is at times, the staff have changed ban reasons for individuals who are appealing to pardon with addresses for Bitcoin or PayPal to allow for repayments.

I understand that it can be tedious to post on the thread, but it generally gets an answer very quickly.

One workaround would be if the ban had a main ban location and then one private page contained mod notes that contained all the private stuff.

this works in 99% of cases, and i normally do this when looking up people's ban histories because not all staff leave good notes for ban reasons

anyway, re: op, i don't see why you'd need this information. if you have a question about a specific case or cases, you can always ask a mod, and we'll tell you what we can about the case. a lot of the bans you can't find publicly are complex or contain private information, and we keep them private for a variety of reasons

i did this for all threads pre-spring 2014 on xolr's website but it didn't get much attention

the best way to do this is to google "site:sythe.org [name] banned/scammer" or pm a mod
