Private Reports

it seems these are becoming more and more popular. While I definitely think these do serve a purpose and have their place, they don't need to be used UNLESS the report must be private. I've done my time on the staff team, and I highly doubt the amount of private reports that should be privatecoming in have significantly risen; it's likely people just wanting to keep it private. There aren't too many instances where it should be.

This is coming from the John Devola/SahaGold report. John asked to see the evidence but it's private. Considering he's expected to pay out a debt from his previous partner he should be allowed to see the evidence, and there is no reason it should even be private to begin with. Should there be an issue with the company or either of the partners, it should be public so people know about that issue before dealing with either individual and/or the company.

I'm not taking a stab at anyone, rather I'm saying the people shouldn't be left in the dark, especially those involved in the report.

 

I also think private reports should only be available when they contain very personal information, or you want to remain anonymus for a valid reason not just when you "don't want to harm someone's business", if they have shitty business practices people should know about it.

 

Support its unneeded and causes reports to last must longer then they should do.

 

Support, also private reports shouldn't be posted in the report a scammer section, they should be messaged to a staff member lol.

 

Private reports are dumb as hell, and there's no way it's been necessary for the ~2+ a day that are posted. Support

As stated above, if they're private they shouldn't be in the RaS section, they should be directly messaged to a staff member. As for the evidence disclosure, this is standard in any type of justice system. All victims/suspects should be able to observe the evidence presented against them in most cases at hand.

 

Support. I was always under the impression that a private report was to be communicated to a moderator *in private*

lol i came back and posted a few reports mainly because i didn't want people to know i was reporting them or for them to know what the proof is because it could get the people who gave it to me in trouble and i think that's what started it

but the reason is because i used to make reports to video on skype and now hes afk like half the time

so we can effectively blame this entire issue on video

 

You're free to report the easy ones to me aswell, though I do hate private reports (scam reports) and reports about hacked profiles.

This is a simple fix, just make a rule where all parties involved in a private report are allowed to see any evidence. Considering they are directly involved they should be able to do so.

People can still make the private reports that way and the public wont know about what exactly is going on, the original reporter can even comment and delete his posts to avoid people from finding out if he has to respond.

People should be able to see the evidence involved in private reports if they are an effected party. Besides that I see nothing else that needs to change.

I'm more targetting the "private report" titles with "see deleted post" in the body below. If it ends up in a ban, the community is left in the dark with who is banned and why. Sure they could ask, but it isn't indexed by google nearly as easily. Report a Scammer can also be used as a "don't deal with this person because they did this" but private reports make it so we can't see that.

I prefer to be able to silently remove those who deserve it without starting a drama about it. If the big ass banned tag on a users profile isn't enough to warn the community then their already hopeless regardless of the reason.

Well, not every ban is the same. Going by that, no one should ever trade you since you're banned a lot. Instead, if all these private reports were created as they're supposed to be, the community wouldn't be left in the dark and would know. There are also banned/DNT members who trade actively among the community, so seeing a report go up could save members from losing money, instead of it being private and more people fall victim.

 

I'd just like to state for the record that after seeing the "private sensitive information" that was used against me in the private report filed by searchy. There were one MAYBE two lines that needed editing out. And they didnt have any relevance to the report whatsoever.

 

Agree private reports should only be used in certain circumstances. It seems they're being used more and more by reputable market traders when one of their deals goes south on them; it seems it's because it isn't sensitive but because it shows that they have been scammed when their considered to in most cases, be the ones in positions of trust.

The reason I am mainly against it, is if a user is scam quitting, the report a scammer section is a good indicator if they've scammed others. If people are being reported privately they have the time between a moderator viewing that report to potentially target other unknowing victims.
