It made me actually feel better. I never felt bad of my life or at least not always do and after watching this video, it shows to me that I am actually lucky to be in the shape I am. I first thought that I wasn't lucky or anything. I was just normal, not unlucky nor lucky.

I hope this video does change the views of those who think they are ugly, worthless, etc.

Truly unbelievable video. I really felt highly sympathetic for this guy but at the same time I felt uplifted because of the fact that he's just so happy with such little that he has. Truly amazing.

i realized that we whine about stupid things like the clothes we wear, or what kind of car we drive, when this guy doesn't even whine about how he doesn't have arms or legs.
some people are ungrateful.

This is pretty much on par with the Africa paradox, used (in my mind) to undermine people's problems.

Now for starters, using the Africa paradox, or the "it could be worse" argument pretty much states that: your problems are not that bad, and therefore you should ignore them, get back up, and keep going. This is why religion flourished amongst slaves, prison populations, and those on the very bottom classes. Because it means that you can hope for something better in the short/long term.

Now what exactly is the Africa paradox? Well it's almost like this, but it states: You have all of these things, you should be happy for the things you have, you could be a starving child in Africa right now. Or, in this case, you could be this guy who has no arms and no legs. Basically, you are presenting a hypothetical situation, that can't be tested, because we exist in reality. I understand that yes, things could be better. But I think of it more that we shouldn't always look at the bad, as there is some good in every bad situation, and some bad in every good situation.

This type of derailing helps at about a 50/50 chance. I personally think that I pretty much unfriend/delete/block whoever says this sort of thing to me. I think it's a copout to dealing with your problems. But some people seem to be cheered up from it, which is because humanity is empathetic to the plight of others.

I actually made a satirical post about how Chinese sweatshop workers shouldn't complain about the lives they have, because they could be in third world countries starving and the only work they do is to provide water or food for themselves and that's it. It got a lot of criticism but it's the same type of argument that you use on anyone else.

 

^ I kinda agree with Jiglo, but this video still cheered me up a lot. It's just inspirational to make you do things, like if I can't be bothered to get out the front and play basketball, and he can go playing golf without arms and legs, what kind of person does that make me? :L
