What are your thoughts? Do you believe their methods are justifiable in the face of bigotry like this? What if they misname anyone, and it unjustly results in the end of their career?

 

Wow, that's insane. Just as you said though, I hope they double and triple checked their work so they're not bringing down any innocent people along the way.

 

Tbh, I must agree with Dunworry. Even then, as much as I dislike what that group stands for, this could allow bad things to go their way. Their beliefs may need to be changed, but I don't think that harming an individual is the way to do it, which this what this could allow some individuals to do.

 

I'm anxious to see the backlash from this. While it is so easy to think "good on them for taking it to those evil KKK" it really could have catastrophic effects on the individuals listed. I hope at least for the individuals sake that those listed are all actual members and no one has been falsely put in.

I believe they made sure the people on the list are involved/associated with the KKK. The level of the claim is too extreme not to. I don't have much sympathy for the people involved.

 

Agreed, KKK is nothing but scum anyways. Sometimes I forget this Anon group actually exists, then shit like this happens and I'm sitting here like "well shit..."

 

Sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh at some of the aliases of that Ben Garrison person... Also looked at a few of the facebook profiles, are they actually exposing anyone new/noteworthy? Half of them have KKK/white supremacist profile pics/cover photos and openly share these kinds of links...

Some of the names were highly suspect. One of the high profile peoples listed is the mayor of Lexington, Ky. Who happens to be openly gay, which if you're not familiar with the KKK is something they don't condone. The mayor of Knoxville who has mixed raced family and fought alongside Caesar Chavez for farm worker rights.

 

They've messed up before on those they named who were supposed to be involved in organizations they oppose and shame. Namely when they released names involved in Ferguson

While they may have triple checked, it's still a huge accusation to make.

KKK is an unorganized and segmented group, some of which are actually warring clans amongst themselves. So no. They're not a huge deal these days

 

Isn't the point, not whether the KKK are "a big deal," but that what they symbolize be called to attention? That seemed pretty clear to me:

Whatever the consequences, however bold their operation, anon's work is surely an indication of the sort of attitude that many of us in the USA (and, no doubt, all over the planet) are severely in need of. I do not necessarily mean going to the same lengths as anon; I am more interested in the motivation to bring attention to topics that frequently surface, but are then unfortunately swept into and diluted in a current of mass triviality.

Pretty sure the risks outweigh the benefits for the safety of them names,
if anybody that lives in a 100 mile radius of a gang then they'll probably get hurt/killed.

 

I agree, it's not that KKK is a prominent geoup, it's that KKK is still an active group, despite the social norm. Good on someone to attempt disestablishment, even if illegally

What do you mean safety of the names? What if someone is misnamed ?

Yeah, legality will always be a hurdle. I'd venture to guess that Anonymous are keenly aware of the fact that a government (such as that of the USA) is often preoccupied with many other concerns.

That might be putting it gently.
