Animal testing

Animals =/= Human, therefore I couldn't care regardless of what anyone says.

So, Sythe, it boils down to intelligence huh? Well what about the mentally ill in the human society? They might not be as intelligent as a dog (not being offensive, just in some cases.). So does this make them any less human... any less able to have rights? No, because they know the basic emotions: Fear, Happiness, Sadness, and Anger.

In addition, every animal contributes to the world in some way, to the eco-environment or to us. If you killed all the domestic dogs, or abused them, That would affect human behaviour. If a human abuses a dog, cat, whatever. Then they become more physically aggressive towards anyone else. This is promoting the violence towards another being.

And Finn, humans are incapable of respecting other humans rights too. In the American Consitution it gives us the right to bear arms. But the state outlaws concealed weaponry or weaponry in some public areas. So everyday you disrespect someone's rights. Whether you are not letting them talk or not letting them express their opinion

Well, would you rather have humans tested and killed? Most people wouldn't sacrifice themselves for the sake of a monkey.

What makes you think that animal testing is killing? If it's a proper lab, they barely have any animal casualties if at all.

I feel that only rational beings deserve rights. Animals are not rational, so they should have no rights. This makes animal testing fine.
By that token, sir, I wish to perform experiments on the mentally disabled, as they are not rational enough for me.

If they're completely non-rational, they are the property of their family. If their family wishes to sell them to you, then go for it.

Because half there tests kill the animal... They give animals cancer, aids, all sorts of diseases and then try and cure it, see what has an affect on the disease. All of these animals end up dead as we don't have a cure for these diseases

I believe you are wrong.

I think that animals have feelings just like we do. Pain, fear, etc. Why is it alright to harm an animal just because they cannot help OUR society?

Take wolves for example, wolves live in packs. Wolves work together killing their prey. Thus they contribute to the pack.

If it will help a human out over the animal, then its worth it.

Well humans are above any animal. If a human is dying of aids and we want to cure that and usin modern machines ect we may not need animals to test on in the future but as of now, some species of animals are next best thing besides doing it on a human. Also I'm not saying buying fur is ok ect and but people kill jundreds of deer ect a year and eat them, not many people cry over that, thats senseless killing even though they are very over populated in some areas. Again a humans life is above an animals, I don't believe in evolution thus I don't believe we evolved from any species of animal.

Why is a human above an animal? Animals have feelings just like we do.

Why is it senseless to kill deer if we are going to eat them. We have to survive dont we? I dont believe in testing on animal's but i do believe that we must eat and survival of the fittest.

I'm against animal testing, it's cruel and makes us feel bad, I agree that animals have feelings like we do, we should only treat them nice, but on some circumstances we have to kill them for their resources

An invalid counterargument. Replace animals with 'convicted murderer' and see how silly your argument looks:

"I think that murderers have feelings just like we do. Pain, fear, etc. Why is it alright to harm a murderer just because they cannot help OUR society?"

Because not only can they not help 'our society' but they would be severely detrimental to 'our society' (meaning innocent people) if let loose. This naturally follows from the fact that they are incapable of rights because they are incapable of responsibility.

To further illustrate my point:

" Take gang members for example, gang members live in packs. Gang members work together killing their prey. Thus they contribute to the pack."

I don't even need to flesh this out further; Present a valid counterargument or agree that I am right.

It is pretty sad people test stuff on animals, but at least it's not on humans. But animal's have feelings too right?? I think we got to find another way to test things out, it's not right for the animals that get tested on. The animal's parents' would get sad if some..... guy just came up and took it's child from it, like how your parents' would be worried if someone kidnapped you

You're all wishy washy irrational idealists spouting a contradictory mainstream position without the slightest moment of thought as to why you believe such rubbish.

How many of you have eaten a hamburger? Everyone? Good. That came from a cow. Yes a cow. Which was bred and slaughtered for the sole purpose of making you a delicious sandwich. So presumably everyone calling for animal rights in this thread will now become strict vegetarians. No, worse, you'll become those guys who don't eat dairy OR meat OR eggs... otherwise you could just shut up.

I feel that only rational beings deserve rights. Animals are not rational, so they should have no rights. This makes animal testing fine.

I feel quite differently, however.

I believe that since they DON'T have rationality, they can't protest, they have no say in it. Humans can decide whether or not they want to be tested on, animals can't. I think, therefore, that if you haven't given consent, you wouldn't want to be tested on anyway, neither would the animal.

At Sythe: I've actually never eaten a whole hamburger before. I HAVE had meat, and I've been a vegetarian before in my life. I'm at the moment not a "strict vegetarian", but I don't eat meat as much as others do. At this moment in time, I need to have a well rounded and balanced diet, as I'm growing like a maniac, and vegetarianism, though it does have some beneficial side effects, obviously doesn't supply me with enough protein. It's not logical for me at all at the moment. I don't feel like getting into an argument about vegetarianism here, as there are other threads for it. Yes, I understand that even animals in nature kill other animals, and that the meat at the grocery store will still be there whether I eat it or not. It's just my belief, and I know that if I got into a serious debate about it, especially with you or Shredder, I probably WOULD lose, but it wouldn't change my belief.

Only rational beings can have rights, though, for with rights comes responsibilities. They have no notion of responsibilities, therefore, they shall have no rights.

There are alternatives to meat that you could eat, and remain at peak health.

so its ok to kill an animal to eat to survive. But to "possibly" kill or even test a drug or something on an animal that may possible help a dying human live? yea that makes sense..NOT
