Wiki is an extremely poor source when identifying an actual peoples.
Historically, who was the leader of the Palestinians? What about their origins? Can you name a capital of the Palestinian people? Their place of governing/commerce? What about military conflicts? Currency? Is there textual evidence that such a people existed? Is there any cultural evidence of a "Palestinian" people?
The answer is a solid "no."
Palestine is a region, and nothing more. The origin of the name is linked to the Philistines, who were from the Greek Isles. Only foreign empires ever called the region "Palestine." Greeks, Romans, the British, as well as Greek historians, referred to the region as "Palestine," and only used it to reference a region. Hence, Herodotus is quoted as writing "the Syrians of Palestine," never will you find "the Palestinians of such-and-such."

E: Also, i'd also like for you to explain why Arabs prior to Arafat in the region only referred to themselves as "Arab," part of what was known as Greater Syria as a whole, and the Levant, Palestine, as "Southern Syria." No Arab during mass Arab immigration to the Levant identified as "Palestinian." In fact, Arab nations actually boycotted "Palestinian" goods during the British Mandate period.
